GM, Coach, and players blame game

What makes a football team great? It’s a combination of the three things listed in the subject as we all know, but different percentage of credit/blame.

There have been 4 teams (07, 14, 16, 22) assembled in the past 30 seasons that came closest to the NFCCG and SB contenders. No team is perfect, and I can agree that an elite QB likely alters the outcome in at least 3 of the 4 teams.

I can also agree that the GM role is the single weakest link in the general formula. His decisions to sign or not sign players either in house and outside the organization determine the greatest factors that help win/lose games on the field.

The players determine the outcome on the field far more than the coaches on the sideline. Schemes and strategy work great when elite players are executing them. It will always be that way. You do need someone that can figure out how to motivate the most guys and build chemistry.

There’s a lot that goes into the formula, but the current roster is not going to compete with the top 4 teams in the next few seasons-no matter the coach. The reset that I wanted still looks to be coming even with management desperately trying to eke out a few more wins than the dregs of the league.

The players have changed 10 times over in that time period. We've had 6 new coaches. We've had ONE GM.

Facts.

True. But he does not control everyone’s fate. I already posted that he is the single greatest issue. There are plenty of player issues too, that hinder the team and tie together with the GM.

The GM can stupidly tie themselves to players that no team should build an expensive future with. They can neglect to shop around outside free agents and explore trades when necessary. Most importantly, NFL GM’s must look at players as commodities instead of people.

If your GM is bad, and ours is worse than bad, none of the rest matters.

You simply cannot overcome the constant 1st and 2nd round gaffes.

There’s one main reason I “dislike“ JJ so much, even aside from his narcissism, nepotism, and unaccountability.

His inability to construct a team built to win playoff games has fans at each other’s throats. He builds teams that are always unbalanced. Sometimes the offense is amazing, but the D sucks, or vice versa. The last 5 - 10 years seems they can’t stop the run, and haven’t had a serious running threat since 2018.

There’s always something lacking with JJ’s teams. And now it seems to me that it’s not just that he thinks coaches aren’t important, he just doesn’t want to “waste“ money paying another staff member.

He’s cheap, incompetent, narcissistic, and believes firmly in nepotism.

What a predicament.

We're doomed!!

Championship winning football = the right combination of coaching and players. The odds of cobbling together, an optimal football coaching staff and best overall football roster, diminishes when the person assembling them is football stupid.

Winning culture requires leaders in the locker room who care about winning football games and not podcasts and commercials.
Winning teams have a good Head Coach.
Good QB who can make plays with legs and arm when its needed. Balanced run game with various strengths(#1, short yard guy, 3rd down guy, etc...) Balanced WR room with various strengths (#1, fast guy, jump ball guy, slot guy, etc...)
Tight end is prob the one position that can really give a defense fits if you have the right guy. Having a top TE is really important in my mind.
Oline and DLine need to be excellent. Lb and secondary guys need to be adequate and play within the scheme and follow assignments. Reliable Kicker.

How may of these does this team have?

Spoiler alert. 1. Reliable Kicker.

And there it is….that’s in the running for the biggest problem. It’s at least top three….

They know where the team is lacking on the field, but if they don’t find a bargain…or a rookie..they would rather leave it as a weakness, and thats identified and exploited by the better staffs in the league, which is what you see come playoff time and why those famous “12 win seasons” were so hollow.

This ........ its insane to think there are people who still blame other stuff.

"Shotti" will just be the next fall guy in a long line of Jerry Jones's Ego.

IMO...

GM, head coach and QB.

any 2 out of the 3 have to be above average. and then the 3rd one has to be no worse than average (and leaning toward above average)

Some people wake up and think, "today I will try and deflect blame away from Jerry".

Disagree. In basketball great players make coaches look great. In football great coaches make mediocre players play great.

Tom Brady laughs at that opinion (see what he did to a Tampa Bay team upon arrival). Great offensive lines make the major difference in the running game-they must also do a decent job to help the passing game viable. An elite QB along with at least one elite receiver turn a good passing game into a great one. Certain positions can transform entire units into high end units because they are manned by elite players. Get enough of them and the team turns into a SB contender.

Great coaches get the most out of a player’s talent. I don’t believe they make mediocre players play great. Mediocre players can make great plays as long as they have several elite players on their unit.

The problem that has no answer is..how do you know the players/coaches were bad? Again those coaches won trophies under other GM's..even the players that leave seem to thrive under a diferent GM..this GM has made every coach/player a loser even ones who were winners before...you can keep trying to cut the tail off the snake but until you decide to get the head good luck...

This is a sincere question...

Other than the fact that the cowboys can't win a playoff game, where exactly do the cowboys suck?

The reality is in the last 10 years we've been to the playoffs 9 times BUT have only won 3 of those games.

Keep in mind, I'm only playing devils advocate trying my best to think like Jerry (which could be dangerous LOL).

GM

Period.

He hires the head coach. He even hires all of his assistants,

He chooses the players, both the draft and free agency. He decides contracts. He and only he decides who stays and who goes.

He hires all personnel department executives. He hires all the administration executives.

He even owns the freakin' stadium where they play half their games.

He expects to receive full credit in the exponentially fractional probability that the Cowboys win a Super Bowl.

It's him.

Jerry was shocked we didn't make the SB. Does he ever tire of embarrassing himself? It's as if he thinks just because he says something that anyone other than his dopey son will believe it...
