I'm kind of torn about this. The next two games are meaningless for playoff position. The NFC goes through AT&T Stadium until we are out no matter what happens elsewise.
On the one hand winning is important. Momentum and emotion are more important in football than in any other sport I watch. With the off time from the bye, closing out with two more wins could be significant going into the division round.
On the other hand, we have not had much opportunity for player development since the season started. Players are busy watching film on the upcoming opponent and installing the game plan. Except for the bye week opportunity for drilling mechanic and scheme basics have likely been few and far between.
I tend to follow the Landry line of thinking that it is preparation that leads to confidence.
There is plenty of work to be done too. QBs need to work on footwork, backup RB needs reps to get in football shape, TE need to work on hand placement, OL need to mend, DL needs work on pass rush moves, LB need work on taking on blocks and gap discipline, CB need work on ball skills, S need work on angles and drops, ST needs work on all manner of things.
Combine that with the current turd of the CBA gutting practice time and I think the time best spent closing that gap. It is an opportunity that no other team right now can afford which would amount to a competitive advantage.
Now this is not to say that we need preseason in the winter. We don't have the rosters to get away with that and the opponent is not going to oblige either. That sounds like a good way to get people hurt. What I am thinking is minimal gameplanning during the week with a focus on scheme and mechanics during practice with a healthy rotation during the games that sees all 45 gameday actives play in the offense and defense.
Curious to see what other people think.
