Watched it last night but...
I knew it had a Christian theme going in (Yes, I am one) but did not know the origins of the film (local church) and the number of non-professionals involved. I was pretty disappointed actually.
1 - I don't want to disrespect the enormity of what these "David's" pulled off in actually making the film as Hollywood "outsiders". But the combo of acting/writing was really substandard imo, to the point of very significant distraction.
2 - I also think it failed to present Christian theology in an appropriately balanced manner. Its not at all grossly out of bounds, and I can see their attempts to keep it balanced, but in the end, the team gets its championship, the coach gets a raise & a new truck, and the coach & wife finally get pregnant. In other words, every conflict was resolved with an ending that felt good to the human flesh which to me is not a balanced message of the gospel.
Overall, I just thought this movie did not come off as believable real life because of the writing, acting, and tidy little wrap up of every storyline even though I understand its based at least in part on real events (I think?).
Most Christains I think will do a fist pump and celebrate this offering from their kind into Cinema but I think it just underscored how far the Christian community is behind in that arena.
I suspect my comments are borderline appropriate to this site which tries to steer totally clear of religious discussions but I wanted to offer a contrary opinion on the movie as a Christian. No site disrespect intended.
