Goal line formation - a new scheme

I was thinking of a new formation that the Cowboys should unleash in goal line situations. First, Dez Bryant split out wide from the formation, a dominating threat for getting a jump ball.

Substitute Leary for Collins at left guard.
Put Witten next to Free on the right. A threat for the infamous goal line flat route
Put Rico Gathers, (6'8", 290) on the left

Romo at QB, of course
Elliott in a wishbone, left spot and finally
Collins at wishbone right

Elliott takes one false step at the snap, while La'el Collins 6'4, 321 pounds gets a running start to steamroll a defender in the planned running lane.

Elliott can either use the running lane, create his own, Romo can throw the jump ball to Dez, or the out routes to Gathers or Witten.

I think this maximizes the threats Dallas can use. What do you think?

If Leary doesn't beat out Collins at LG he won't be active on game days.

yea, we only saw this all last year, don't see why it would be different, unless Leary has learned how to play center

which would make him extremely valuable, and I'd probably deal him :)

All we have to do to raise our success exponentially in short-yardage situations is quit motioning somebody right to the hole were about to run through.

It amazes me how many times they must have watched that play Fail on film and yet continued to run it...

A better idea is read option/RB led QB run with Dak at QB and Zeke next to him. At OSU, Zeke was an unstoppable lead blocker for QB. At MSU, Prescott was unstoppable at read option. So defense can't completely stack the box for the run, give Dak option of lob to Dez if single covered.

Replace Leary with an active gameday roster player on the offensive or defensive line (maybe whoever's slotted at swing tackle on the OL..?)

Re-state "Elliott takes one false step at the snap..." as "After the snap, Elliott takes one false step..."

The formation is a viable option I think.

Correction to the formation and my grammar. nice. I don't mind at all, if the Cowboys actually use it!!!

That is a really good idea. It minimizes the jump ball to Dez, unless the chemistry is there. I'd add an extra O-lineman in there somewhere instead. That's a great idea!!

Brilliant!

Of course, you've got two guys who won't be active on game day out there but I assume you've got a remedy for that.

Also, you've got two guys doing things they've never done before but hey, why not? Most giant OL can figure out FB despite being way too tall for the typical blocking duties and most college basketball players easily transition to TE. But again, I'm sure you've built in solutions there

You can't do this and run a wishbone unless you want 12 guys on the field.

1 WR, 2 T, 3 G, C, 2 TE, 2 RB, QB = 12

I think you just mean a split backfield? I really doubt Collins is fast enough to do that without bogging Zeke up in the backfield. If you want to do this and just run out of I-Form with Collins as the lead, I can buy in.

I form works too, depending on Collins' speed.

Be bold. Put that scheme into play in Bizzaro World. You know, "Bad player is good I hate to be good" jungian thing. It might work. I have seen odder things during Landry's last five years.

I think we should lineup without a center

... and the defense will be all like "I dunno who's gonna to hike the ball."

But Romo is still audibibling like crazy loud and throwing in words like "habanero jackpot"

Then ?????

Then TD Dallas.
