It's crappy to expect preferential treatment like that and I certainly wouldn't be a big fan of it but if ever there were some guys who have earned it, Gonzo would certainly be one of them.
I like the guy and don't necessarily blame him. He's made money, has put his name into the record books on par with some of the best WRs to ever play, has secured a 1st ballot ticket to the HoF. He's only 37 and likely wants to spend some time away from the routine.
If I were a Falcon fan, I would rather he be there but if it came to playing with Tony or playing without I'd gladly give him all the time off he wanted. He's still productive and from everything I have heard is top notch all around.
I hope he's back. Although I don't want him to win a SB outright because that would mean Dallas doesn't, Tony G is probably at the top of the list for players who I think deserves a win and would like to see eventually get a ring.
