Exactly why the 2021 draft needs to be their best ever.........

Unfortunately, the best strategy for the Boys is to let Dak play elsewhere. They have too many bad contracts and restructuring will continue to hamper them.

Both Jerry and Dak blew it in not agreeing to terms in the past.
Not agreeing to a deal actually benefits them for next year. You can allow the first year to be a lower cap hit.

Yes, but that simply moves the bill forward. Also, let’s not forget Dak is now an injured player. That will now factor in. Boys are just unlucky in this scenario. See Romo. See Jaylon. It’s just an unfortunate situation.

a hungry aggie entered a pizza shop and ordered pizza. the owner asked if he would it like it cut into 6 pieces or 8. 6 said the aggie. i don't think i could eat eight. the cap is the pie. there are just so many pieces to the pie. and as history has taught us, it's always about the slice of the pie. stephen will have to be at his most creative contract negotiating this coming off season.

Dak has a ankle injury nothing as extreme as Romo or Jaylon lol.

It doesn’t move the bill forward.....

And a certain player wants about 20% of that pie.

I said this in another thread and Rockport yelled at me

And Kaiser is going around telling everyone the Cowboys can do whatever they want in FA this year.

They cannot unless they restructure a lot of contracts including touching a guy like Elliott's contract, which would be a horrendous decision (I don't think there is remotely a chance they'd do that anyway).

That’s right, not as extreme, still a known injury. Ok, not moving the bill forward, give me a detail example of a contract agreement, the way you see it?

And when you do that, you end up being the Philadelphia Eagles who are staring at being like $60+ million over the cap in 2021.
You can always keep pushing it down the line, as long as the players you’re doing it with don’t fall off a cliff to where you need to cut them for poor play but can’t absorb the cap hit.

DWare situation. His injuries limited his production here to a point they needed to move off him and cap hit was manageable

Ware was set to make $12.25 million in 2014, and the move will help save salary cap space for the strapped Cowboys (more than $7 million in 2014). The present day version of Jerry Jones had to pay up for all his previous mistakes

paying big contracts isn’t a problem. It’s paying it to players you need to replace a few years later ala Jaylon

That's a fallacy that people keep saying. You can't just keep pushing it down the road. Eventually it comes due in the form of not being able to be very active in FA or worse, staring at the prospect of having to cut players that you could use. Ware was cut because they were up against the cap and needed breathing room.

Again, we have a clear example in Philadelphia right now. They did the whole restructure thing for years, loading up for a SB run from around 2017 until now. But eventually you hit the wall where your restructures come due and there isn't enough flexibility in the roster to restructure even more.

The Chiefs have given how many Max contacts this offseason? The NFL is becoming more like the NBA. IF (big IF) your stars stay healthy and at peak performance you’re fine.

Some offseasons will be leaner than others. No you can’t just add anyone you want to. But you can field competitive teams, you just lose a margin of error by not having great depth and are relying on the stars to carry you through.
