Hey guys.

Will be visiting Texas for a week and we will spend 3 nights in Houston, 3 nights in San Antonio and 1 day in Dallas. Our Dallas trip will be for the Cowboys-Lions game and we will only spend 16 hours in Dallas. That's why Dallas is off the list.

We are looking for unique but not so famous steakhouses in Houston and San Antonio area. I guess you can add Austin to the mix as well. We don't want famous places for 2 reasons. 1) Most of these places have overpirced menus 2) We prefer to explore places that are hidden gems where ever we go.

Okay, suggestions welcome. Cheers! :)

Brenner's on the Bayou in Houston. I would compare their steaks to any of the over-priced places. It is a bit expensive but nothing like the nameds. Stay away from high-priced wines and it is very affordable.

Is this the one you are talking about? From their website it seems like they are pretty famous already.

A little pricy, but worth a look.

Well, was in Dallas this weekend and it's a shame you don't have time. Had BBQ a Lockhart's and it's was fantastic. I don't really love their BBQ Sauce but the meat is so good, it doesn't even matter.

Had a Steak at Bob's Chophouse and it was hands down the best steak I've ever had. Unbelievably good!

I know you don't have a lot of time but if you find any, while in Dallas, I highly recommend either of these spots.

BBQ in San Antonio try either the "big bib bbq" or the "smoke shack" I prefer the latter

Will check this out for sure. Thanks my friend. :)

Thanks sir. It really depends on what time we will arrive to Dallas and when we will go back to San Antonio the next day. We might squeeze in a Tuesday lunch at either Bob's or Lockhart's. Will let you know if we can hit one of those places.

Will check this out Ranching. Cheers!

SP, these places are not cheap but both, IMO, are worth the money. If you don't make it to them, maybe next time. Was at the Tampa game last weekend and man was it great. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. More if you can manage.

Take good care Brother!

Nothing! ABQJr. went with me and while we had different seats (We bought our tickets before ABQJr. confirmed he could go), it was so much fun. You don't get a lot of chances in life to make memories with your children that will last a lifetime. You gotta recognize those opportunities and take advantage of them.

Sounds like you already know this.

I'm gonna grill some 1 3/4 inch ribeyes this afternoon. Washing it down with a pitcher of sangria and frozen fruit. Come on down.

That is pretty thick to grill IMO. Will the fat and gristle render down to tender on a MR steak?

My wife got me hooked on the thin-cut ribeyes lately. Nothing better than catching them on fire and get that great taste from the fat, although it is impossible to cook them under MW

For those 2 inchers, I have been cooking them like a prime-rib(two steaks)........put my rub on them and bake them in the oven for a few hours....low and slow. They turn out great, just don't have the grill flavor. I just can't get the thick ones to come out tender and not chewy when grilling and I know how to BBQ
