I was going to just do OL originally (why my title is off) but I got carried away and just looked for anybody I thought was on the radar for us. He has more but I feel like this covers the goods.

Just comparing these two highlight films, Cooper looks like a much better player than Warmack and I'd argue that it isn't even close. On the plays he allegedly looks bad he looks as good as Warmack. On the plays he looks good he looks dominating on a different level than any OG I have seen.

I think I see why people are talking about a top 10 pick for him.

I don't think there is much of a chance that Cooper will fall to us. I'd be willing to give up the 4th rounder to move up a bit to grab him if we had a willing trade partner. Maybe even the 3rd rounder as much as it would pain me because I think this guy is something special.

Warmack looks pretty bad when asked to get out in the open field and make a block - really bad. He is okay with pulling and making a block inline but not to lead a run outside. He is just too slow to get the job done properly anytime he is asked to go more than about 10-15 yards. He is good at getting into the second level on runs but anything more than that and he struggles.

I agree with Fuzzy when he says that he isn't nearly as impressed with Warmack as most of the media.

As a pass blocker Warmack has room for improvement no doubt(he is average), but he will dominate in the run game like no other IMO.

and you are also smarter then all the coaches and others who say he is great?

Yes, Warmack is good, but not as great as the hype.

He has other negative plays that didn't show up on that video.

What coaches? Have any coaches that are not Alabama coaches or media members commented on Warmack?

I was talking about in comparison to Cooper and most people seem to have Cooper being drafted ahead of Warmack now. That is also the buzz in the scouting community.

If you want an in-the-box blocker, Warmack is very good. If you want someone to play in open space he is bad. Most of the time OLs don't play in open space so it isn't necessarily a huge negative but based on the kinds of things I'd like for us to do offensively (run screens) I think it is a factor one must consider.

Whether Warmack has a first round grade is not what I was attesting to. I was only talking about in comparison to Cooper. I think Cooper is on another level from him and everyone else in the draft. The two best players irrespective of position in this draft may be Cooper and Tavon Austin. It really is a weak draft at the top end.

I agree with that. I'm more impressed with Cooper at OG than Joeckel at LT.

To me it's a no brainer. If we were the Cowboys of the 90s, Warmack would absolutely be the guy we would want at Guard. However, I think we are trying to re-invent our OL to be the Broncos of the Early 2000s. In that situation, I think we need a player like Cooper. He can bring more to our offense, IMO, then can Warmack.

I know, a lot of you don't agree with that but that's what I see.

An OLine with Cooper and Smith would be freakishly athletic.

I also thought Fluker looks insanely slow, which is worrying considering how fast some of the pass rushers in this division are coming off the edge. He doesn't look like he will get much faster.

I also really like Werner.

well I guess then that every talking head that has been a coach or top player in the NFL that has praised Warmack are wrong and you are right.

sure.

Wrong about what Burm? I don't think anybody is saying that Warmack is not a great player. I think there are those who are saying that he is not as good a fit for us as Cooper would be. I think that's a more accurate statement.

As stated previously in this thread, many draft analysts have Cooper rated higher than Warmack.

We don't know what the real scouts think at this point.

I don't really think it has to be a 1 size fits all thing. I mean, I like Cooper more then I do Warmack for what I believe we are going to be running but if Cooper is gone and we end up with Warmack, I'd be pretty happy with that as well. If we ended up with any of the players I believe to be worthy of a 1st round grade, at a position of need, I'm going to be happy.

Basically, all of this is just for passing the time until real football finally comes back.

:laugh2:
