Felix Jones isn't going to be the 3rd down back any time soon.

Kid is fast as lightning, but he's just not a natural pass catcher at all.

That's going to be MBIII's job this season.

Herb Donaldson and Gronkowski looked pretty good in the RB vs. LB drills. Donaldson didn't look so good in the run series. TC also looked good in his routes.

Im really liking what I see from Sam Young in that 3rd vid.

He was such a boring pick to me at the time but we may have stole a future Right Tackle.

Also Romo shouldve hit Bennet on that 2nd play in the 4Th video.

Hated the Sam Young pick.

Not so much right now though.

Asked Broaddus the other day if he had to pick a backup Right Tackle for the 53 man roster right now would it be Young or Brewster.

Took Young because he's more ready to play in games.

I disagree about Felix Jones' receiving skills.

Skip Pete has already hinted that the Cowboys want to get Felix Jones the ball through the air, in order to supplement his anticipated increase in the running game work load. You can't do that by yanking him off the field on third down all the time. The Cowboys have been working him in the passing game a bunch, and he's going to get his opportunities to catch the football this year, imo.

Marion Barber's rookie year receiving:

18-115-0 LG 21 6.4 AVG

Felix Jones second year: (only caught two ball his rookie year)

19-119-0 LG 30 6.3 AVG

Felix Jones catches the ball very well out of the backfield, and that is fundamental to being a RB.

The slot receiving and running WR routes is icing on the cake for Jones, and he's working hard on it and has improved in that area.

Barber saw a jump in his receiving output during his 3rd year.

44-283-2 6.4 AVG

I expect Jones to be much more involved in the passing game this year; he catches the fundamental RB balls well. I seem to recall him catching a floating throw with one hand and getting good yardage on it. When Dez Bryant is on the field, there is going to be even more space for Jones to operate and get space in the running game and receiving. Jones is simply too explosive of a football player to have standing on the sidelines on third down.

Jones caught only 4 balls in the two playoff games and had 52 yards.

That is a 13.0 AVG, and the long was 30 yards against the Eagles.

It might be wise to throw it to him more, and you can't do it with him on standing on the sidelines on the money down in the NFL.

He is going to be more involved in the passing game, but he's not natural and I don't think the coaches trust him blocking for Romo.

You combine those two things and I see Barber as the 3rd down back.

Brookins got beat like a step child

like the pass to Felix was not high an outside not in stride - yea one pass in PRACTICE

hmmmmm whos that snapping the ball in third video - Bright

You could really see Jason William's speed in these drills.. dude closed on the RB's quick.

Thanks DC you are the best. I don't care what everyone on the board says about you... :D

I thought that I read where Felix Jones was looking good in the passing game.

Before the 9-on-9 the running backs and linebackers ran a one-on-one receiving drill. Felix Jones was the star, beating every linebacker who tried to cover him short and deep. Jones raced past Jason Williams on one dash up the hash and finished the drill by forcing Keith Brooking to hold him -- repeatedly.

He may have "been the star" of the "1 vs 1's" this particular practice but before this i saw nothing in the reports of him doing well in a receiving role or anything that would indicate he'll be on the field alot on 3rd downs. Barber still catches the ball very well and his blocking is light years ahead of Felix still.

Yea those guys looked smooth.... Lonye Miller looked good running routs and catching the ball also.

Nice work up, 41...and don't worry about supposed brow beats thrown around here. You could tell some posters that there is real gold at Fort Knox and they wouldn't believe you until a bird is zapped by security outside of the facility.

There is just too much to be gained by getting both Dez Bryant and Felix Jones on the field at the same time. Don't worry, both Felix Jones and Marion Barber will see plenty of action this season. Both will be better for it...and not all of it boils down to being the runway queen as some think.

But he can't play and he will be cut.

Dangit if when I get a neat little angry buzz and I start to chuckle on site...;)

The man needs to hit the juggs machine twice a day at least. If he could excel at catching out of the backfield, while having Austin and Dez going deep. That would be some scary ****!
