I want to start taking them. Which vitamins would you all recommend? I've been looking at One-A-Day for Women and Centrum.

Man I wish I could answer that with one simple sentence. Stay away from the commercial stuff. Doesn't have all the stuff you need and too much junk you don't. You've probably heard this..............go herbal/natural. You also need to make sure your body can digest what you're taking. For most, the commercial stuff.............end up flushing it. Stay away fro GNC and the likes. Find a Sprouts or any other organic store. The folks in there will be able to help you out. It may overwhelm you at first but hang in there, it's worth it. Your age and diet will determine what you're needing.

I would recommend fish oil right out of the gate. Sart that asap.
A couple of things with that.........you want the highest levels of EPA and DHA possible. EPA about 400-650mg and DHA about 300-500mg. 1200-1250mg fatty acids and about 100mg of Omega3. Make sure the oil is from cold water fish. It'll say on the bottle. Deep water = cold water. Be sure it's lead free. 90% of them are but check the bottle or ask. Purity Products are the best out there but kinda pricey. You could choose maybe one or two vitamins from them and get the rest from your herbal/organic store. www.purityproducts.com
Good luck Little Red. If I can help let me know. The folks at purity will answer questions for you as well and are more qualified to do so.

:D

On a serious note, probably not much worse than most of the other multivitamin pills out there.

The poster above gave a wealth of information but if it was me I would not want to put that much time, effort and money in to all of that.

If I want a vitamin to take I would rather it be one multivitamin compared to a hand full of individuals.

But what if all those individuals came in Dinos? :D

Wife was taking them for a little while.

Doc said it would not hurt to be on a multivitamin
and said she could just use any, including flintsones.

I used to eat those things as a kid.

However I will tell you that those things are crazy now.

I took one shortly after she got them and after taking it anything I drank had some wicked taste to it.

I thought maybe I was just getting sick that day.

A few days later I took another one and bang if I went to drink a coke or something it would just taste nasty.

Needless to say I did not take anymore.:laugh2:

Yes...it was the little dinos.

Maybe there was dino doody in them.:p:

It was funky. I can only compare it to if you are cleaning something with a strong cleanser like bleach or tilex or something. When you do it for some time after you are done everything tastes funky for a little bit.

That was how it was with these things and for the life of me I don't remember that as a child.

Oh well, I just don't try them anymore after that.

...go to a doctor and have some diagnostic tests taken. Check your LDLs, HDLs. Go over any history you may have. Review the diet you are on with your physician. (Not the one people use to lose weight, but rather the one you normally have day in and day out.)

If you are female have you had any yeast infection problems, any UTI's? Given your age you may want to look at where you are on the growth curve and see if a calcium, natural, liquid or manufactured could be of use to help build calcium.

Information is the key and being proactive is tremendous for anyone's health. There are so many products out there to target specific deficiencies or areas a person may want to supplement. Maybe in the end all you want is one little convenient pill. Or your personality may require you to use multiple supplements. It's really up to you after you have gotten some info.

Best of luck.

I personally prefer to watch what I eat and try to get necessary vitamins from my diet rather than pills. Body absorbs it better, and you can actually have too MUCH vitamin (IE - Vit D)

I decided to start taking B Complex because a thiamin deficiency can hurt your memory, and i drink a lot of coffee and i like beer, and both of those beverages act as diuretics and deplete your bodies water soluble vitamins (B vitamins are water soluble)....but i can never remember to take them.

Actually any MVI is probably fine, but as Crown stated its important to get the most out of your diet. The vitamin is only a SUPPLEMENT, there are hundreds of micronutrients (antioxidants, carotenes, indoles etc) that interact with each other and are not isolated into viatmins/minerals and science has yet to discover the functions and interrelations of all these.

Eating a well balanced and healthy diet with fresh foods gives your body access to these nutrients. The supplement is manily to cover what your diet may be lacking, though in truth when you look at the most common vitamins and minerals in supplements - most people will not be as lacking in these.

Most people have way more vit a stored than they could ever use, your body absorbs vit d from sunlight. almost everything is fortified with calcium now, phosphorus and potassium are in such an abundance that people with kidney disaese have to avoid a good bit of the food supply or end up with elevated blood levels of potassium or phosphorus in as little as 2-3 meals. Adequate Vit c is easily obtained from diet and while vit c is a reducing agent that fights free radicals, it also causes free radicals by reducing healthy cells so taking massive doses of vit c not really a good idea.

It is good to supplement the water soluble vitamins because they are depleted through the urine daily and a lot of people dont eat enough green leafy vegetables or salads. A good B Complex will also have folate, so that is what i recommend.

My diet is pretty healthy, but i'm not giving up my coffee or beer !!!!!
