08:05 AM ET 02.14 | Considering his current contract runs into March 2019, Roger Goodell is just getting started on making quite a living. [Goodell] signed a five-year contract extension that could bring his annual salary to around $20 million by its conclusion, according to a report by the Sports Business Daily. And that's not sitting well with Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White. After news of Goodell's raise broke Monday, White tweeted: "How in the [heck] can u pay a man this much money that cant run tackle or catch." ... "Roger Goodell is getting over never seen anything like it 20 million for looking over the league with tremendous help I guess the NFL is banking." Goodell earned roughly $10 million per year in his previous contract.

White tweeted: "How in the [heck] can u pay a man this much money that cant run tackle or catch."

:laugh1: Owners gave him a fat raise with the money they extorted from the players. That is sitting real well with the rank and file.

No offense, Roddy.....but how can you pay a man this much money when all he can do is play football?

Exactly! Scary how that is missed by the complaining "football" player.

because the reason this is a multi billion dollar business is because of the players. not taking away from what roger does, i guess his pay can be substantiated based on the upswing up league business. not sure what his pay is relative to ceo's of multi billion dollar corporations, but if i had to guess theirs is eqivalent and probably more.

I don't know about you, but I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. The players come and go, the team remains the same.

I just think in a league where every member is vastly overpaid, Roddy White might want to shut his piehole about the commissioner's salary. The guy runs and catches a football. And lives like a King.

what im sayin is, while you may consider them overpaid the owners are makin money hand over fist. so even "overpaying" they are banking. would the dallas cowboys continue to be a team if they had no players? to continue to have players, you have to pay market value. league needs players, players need league. everybodys getting rich.

Wow! A multi millionaire complaining that another multi millionaire is making. :banghead:

I'm not understanding your stance here. Goodell said nothing about how overpaid Roddy White is. It was Roddy who decided somebody wasn't worth their salary.

In the grand scheme of things Roger Goodell is far more important to the state of the league than some WR for the Atlanta Falcons.

And if push came to shove, this league would do fine with a completely different set of players. The players need the league more than the league needs this group of players. Fans go to the games to root for the team. You only end up idolizing these players because they've worn your team's colors. Without their connection to that team, they are nothing.

i guess this is where you and I disagree. My stance is simply that i dont feel the players are overpaid based on what they bring to the league.

If you think someone who plays football for a living should be a multi-millionaire, then we'll never agree. They are all vastly overpaid. Owners, executives, coaches, players. All of them.

How do you pay a man that much money just because he can run, tackle, and catch?

I would rather pay a firefighter that type of money than a WR.

Like i said, that is where we disagree. Pay millions to make billions? Sign me up.

Of course, sign me up too. That's not the issue. You seem to have an amazing ability to stay off topic.

This is a guy who runs around on a field and catches footballs to the tune of millions of dollars a year. And he's telling us the league's commissioner is overpaid.

Excuse me if I have a hard time taking him seriously. Like Danny DeVito calling someone short.

nah, my only issue was with calling him overpaid. like i said, i think goodell earns his the way the league is growing. as for my amazing ablility, i appreciate the compliment.

lets give the management of the NFL to the players and see how long it lasts

the "NFL" has been built by the owners and the commissioner

I never said that they could, and i never discredited the owners or commisioners. But you have to admit that the NFL was built on worldclass atheletes and the highest level of competition as well.

Roddy shouldn't talk about salaries. He led the NFL in dropped passes the last two years. He gets paid millions to catch the football. He isn't one to talk about others not earning money.

Just curious, how much would it take for you to get out there and play football? To be in a car wreck basically every single play, not just in games but practices included? How much would it take for you to go "play football" and sacrifice your body and mind?

ask the guys who play Semi-pro football, they put their body at risk and do it for chump change. Their knee injuries and head injuries are no less than at the pro level.
