Actually it'd be a good time to invest in google.

The thing is, Facebook stomped things like ******* in to the ground because they lacked innovation. Google doesn't have that problem, they also have a lot of linked services to such an account that would make it worth someones while to consider their social community.

(Documents, Email, etc)
******* collapsed because it had possibly the worst UI on the internet ever and was for primarily only teenage girls and music groups. Facebook may one day die, but it won't be for the same reasons as *******.

Yeah that was one of the reasons to be sure, but Google doesn't really have those problems. Google is a safe bet when they come out with something.

(Search Engine, Android.. you get the idea)

Google has also failed at a number of ventures that were dominated by other parties.

Which? I'm not trying to be snooty, I'm actually genuinely curious.

The only one I remember that I liked was the rent / buy housing thing that was connected to Google Maps. I think they said there wasn't enough interest to justify the amount of time spent on it to continue it.

Thanks, that's pretty interesting.
And you probably already know this, but Google only makes money on their advertising. They try these other projects solely to get more eyes on their advertising. Chrome, search, gmail, Android -- none of that stuff makes them money except for the fact that they're ways to get more advertising money. So they end up attempting to create competitor sites for Twitter (failed with Jiaku) or Facebook (failing now with Google+), so they can rapidly grown their ad revenues.

I'm kind of torn as to whether this drives them to make their products better, or just sufficient enough to get widely adopted based on brand recognition. For example, if Google hadn't bought Android, I don't think it would have went anywhere as an OS. And it's clear to me that the Android OS is not an optimum product.

If I can have ten big investments that flop and still be worth 20 billion...I think I would be okay with that.

Google+ is a little late to the party. It could blow up and be bigger than the rest.

Even if it is a better product. People are used to using their facebook and don't like change. So at this point it will struggle a bit.

I want google+ to replace facebook, I really do, but most of my friends don't care to switch, so I'll end up just sticking with FB. the only thing I use those sites for is photo sharing and scheduling calendar events anyway.

I might start using it more if they start doing the zynga games on it. I only play a couple of them now but that is what takes up the majority of my time when I am on facebook.

Don't post much on facebook.

So far I have checked my google+ account a few times and only have had a very small amounts of posts for other users...so I am not missing out on anything yet.

Google+ might have had a strong showing in getting people to sign up but that does not really matter if they don't use it much.

They (Google) should add the ability to create external circles. Circles that you create that people can subscribe themselves too. That way people can read posts from you on a certain subject. Sort of like Twitter functions, but you can do it subject dependent if you like. (specifically say about Cowboys, or tech, stuff, but not hear garbage like "I'm eating a lemon (((shudder)))" or other idiot posts nobody actually cares to read.

Another smaller service they had that they stopped providing recently was Google 411, an automated 411 service that you could use by dialing 888-goog411 (or something close to that).

While I have a smart phone, I don't have a data plan and I don't use my phone to surf at all, so when I need a phone number, I used Google 411 since it was free.

Now they stopped providing it, so I just have to call a friend and have them look up the number instead of paying however much for Verizon 411 from my provider.

Never ever post your email address in a public forum!

If someone requests it and you want them to have it, send it to them via private message.

Just an FYI

The definition of "private" will need some redefining real soon. But you offer good advice.

Google is scanning emails and private message too. Nooooooo, they wont say it. But if any company ASSURES you that they are not scanning your text in any way, shape or form then ASSUME that not only are they doing that but they are also selling it to 3rd parties companies on a daily basis. Facebook too.

Facebook's valuation of billions is based on potential projected marketing of its 600 billion users and how specific they can target users. ie. clicked Likes, wall posts, school, posting what they like or do...

I like Google+ hangout a lot. Too bad limit is only 10 people, but love the fact that there's FREE video web conferencing.

When I first joined Google+ I didn't invite lots of friends or add many to Circles, but lately I have a lot more people popping up in Google+. They are starting to roll out games too though I haven't looked at them yet.

It's still way early, but I already like this far better than FB. FB sucks and I hate their policies. Especially when I disable sharing of info then they make a policy change and re-enable everything I disabled forcing me to go change it again. (not to mention changing the layout forcing me to find the correct switches to turn it off again)

FB can burn in hell.
