I finally got a chance to watch the press conferences last night.
Here are some of my deep thoughts:

1. I thought Jerry’s press conference was interesting. Sounded like he decided Saturday night he would make a change if things didn’t go well on Sunday. He sounded genuine to me and admitting he was in denial wasn’t easy for him. He does deeply care about the team’s success, beyond just cash in hand. However, I don't get a sense he is about to give up GM responsibilities. So I think Hostile is correct in saying we should just drop it.

2. Through his choice of words, I personally didn’t think Jerry was giving Garrett a tremendous amount of hope about being the coach after this year. My read was Jerry would have to see a big change in discipline, obviously playing really hard and 5+ more wins if he were to go with Garrett next year. I think this will be a tough hurdle for Jason given they have nothing to play for and our starting QB is out.

3. Seems like everyone in here was excited after hearing Jason’s press conference. I personally didn’t think he said anything specific and I wasn’t as thrilled with it, but you definitely got a good idea on his personality. He is a pretty serious guy who is into details and a routine. Definitely a good thing right now, but I am not sure if he has a personality to connect with players. You can be stern and still connect – he has always come across a little ‘distant’ to me.[/size]

4. The most interesting thing to me will be to see who has been making ‘playing time’ decisions. If Jason allocates time toward different players against the Giants (Choice, etc.) it could tell us that Wade (or Jerry) was heavy handed on who starts and how many snaps each player gets.

5. If I were Garrett I would shake things up pretty quickly to set a new tone. Like make a couple of starting lineup changes, etc. The most shocking thing for me on this team is still how afraid we have been to make changes when things aren’t working. This breeds an atmosphere of complacency and lack of accountability. Even the reports talking about the ‘antiquated’ defensive scheme don’t surprise me – the leadership has been unwilling to shake things up.

I like the post and your last point (#5) touches something that also baffles me. What the heck are they afraid of in trying new things/personnel/strategies etc. What's the difference starting a new safety, Choice, benching Davis or anything else to shake things up. They act like they have something precious to protect. I would actually start and play Martellus into the ground to see if we want him on our squad next year.

I noticed he emphasized that this wasn't long term, but was about these next eight ballgames.

But it almost felt to me like he was saying that for the benefit of all the coaches out there who might be available after the year. As in, this isn't a done deal, so keep us in mind.

Good thoughts, goshan.

IMO, the thing to remember is that even if we do fully and accurately understand what Jerry truly means at any given point in time, all we know is what he's thinking at that point in time.

He changes his mind pretty often.

What Jerry is thinking today doesn't tell us a heck of a lot about what Jerry will do tomorrow.

It wasn't that long ago that Jerry appeared to truly believe that mid-season coaching changes were a bad idea. Fans understood Jerry and took it to mean there wouldn't be a coaching change. And then there was a coaching change.
