Gosselin: In 'win-or-else' season, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett should call the plays

The longer the Cowboys go without identifying their offensive play-caller for 2013, the more I see Jason Garrett holding his play card again this fall.

And frankly, I don’t blame him for fighting to maintain control of this offense. His offense. As long as he’s holding that play card, Garrett controls his destiny as an NFL head coach.

The reality of the situation is Garrett could be entering his final season as head coach of the Cowboys. Jerry Jones won’t brand it a win-or-else season, but after back-to-back nonplayoff years with a team ownership considers a Super Bowl contender, Garrett does indeed need to win or else.

Can't argue with Goose. He's the head coach. It's his offense. I wouldn't expect him to put his job in the hands of another play caller if he didn't have to and the people who want him to be completely emasculated like this have no right to complain about our control freak owner.

When you chose to retain Garrett, you chose to retain his offense.

I cant think of anything more boring at this point than Rick Gosselin writing articles obsessing over what Jerry says.

Dont care about either one of these people.

Gosselin seems off base to me. The object is to win. If a change in play callers might help that come about, a good head coach should be all for it and not let his vanity get in the way. Winning is the best defense against being released.

This is exactly right. Winning is the cure to all evils. If we go deep in the playoffs with JG the HC but another calling plays, is that bad? If we can't make the playoffs with and without JG calling plays, he should go regardless. If he can't manage the game in real time, he needs help.

Between plays being called late, time mismanagement, chaos on the dishlines, inability to communicate with the zebras and probably a myriad of nonobvious issues I would prefer they get someone else to do it.

I don't read nondraft related Gosselin articles so I have no idea what this one says.

Will Gosselin still get a Hall of Fame vote when the DMN goes out of business?

not sure if Garrett can call plays effectively. I haven't been impressed so far. What I do know for sure is he cannot manage the game while he is calling plays.

Oh look, another awesome article about play calling.

It is only a story because there is obviously a power struggle about it and it is the offseason.

Is it just me or is every year a "win or else" season for the Cowboys as a team if not for: the QB, for the Coach(es), for the players... but never for the GM.
