no way in Hades this happens. Dallas ain't throwin' first-round money at a safety. none in this draft really merit that level of investment.

trade-downs and O-line/DT are the early keys to success.

bolster the trenches.

Yeah, I agree. The message here isn't so much that we're "interested" in Whitner at 18, but that all the defensive guys might be gone. Goose has probably heard we like him, so he's pegging him to us, but in reality, even he probably thinks we'd trade down to get him.

Either way, safety would certainly be the least exciting pick. I dunno, this draft just seems to have a lot of safety prospects mushed together. I don't know that any of them strike me as being so good that we just have to have them with our top pick.

Jterrell said we don't need a Pro Bowl free safety, but I sure wouldn't mind having one. I'm just not convinced any of this group is that guy...?

Yeah, like I say, I don't like it as much as anyone else. But by the same token, it might be a sign that pass rushers are moving up people's draft boards........heck one just moved all the way up to the number 1 pick, lol.

If they are all gone, we will just have to trade down if possible, but I just don't forsee Carpenter being gone.

Obviously you never argue against taking talent:)
But like you, I don't see the FS crop as offering anything special beyond Michael Huff.

And if we end up with a pro bowl free safety then we are basically forced to let Newman or Roy go. We can not pay all of these guys and a Pro Bowl FS won't be cheap for long. Honestly I don't see us paying 18 money to a FS. Remember in free agency we didn't get a FS because we thought the prices got too high.

I think this pick is OLB or drop down no 2 ways around it. I think we'd love 2nd round FS, WR, OT. If we could end up with 3 second round picks(or 1 very late first and 2 second) we'd probably take that over any player at 18.

if the draft before our pick shapes up like this, don't be suprised to see Dallas take Antonio Cromartie, remember Jerry's CB comment? and then move him to FS

but you guys have to remember that alot of teams are looking to trade down, not up, a special player would have to drop to our pick for us to get any kind of significant trade offers

Gosselin has Cromartie going to the Eagles.

nvm

Actually I'd say the numbers about equal. ;)

The draft can't get here soon enough. And then we have to wait about 4 hours till the cowboys pick.

i agree that Huff is special. the snag is most teams will be looking at him and thinking CB. he should be a very fine one, too.

i reiterate that no Safety in this draft is worthy of a 1st round pick. i don't see any S better than the USC kid - and even he's second round material.

I think it's a couple of slots high but we'll be getting a quality player who will probably start right away. It wouldn't be tragic.

We don't need to move up at all. If challenged with the Goose's scenario, we are guaranteed to do everything to try to trade down.

Failing that - we will still not draft a safety in the 1st round. Simple!

Bill will go for O line before-hand. I still have a suspicion C - Mango is a possibility Slight reach at this position, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Justice may be the more likely pick.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

No way we take this pick.

I've just awoken to Gosselin's news (overnight in the UK) and I am extremely aggitated by it.

This really would be just about a worst-case scenario and would likely justify trading down. Is Whitner a guy that would still be there, at say, 25?
Indeed it will be I don't like the sound of it at all.. I would trade down in a heart beat..just wondering is that a wilde guess in his part or he has some information most of us don't know?

I'm still not seeing why Whitner, who has the ability to play every spot in the secondary, is such a bad thing. He's smart, fast, quick and pretty much everything you could ask for in a safety excpet for a couple inches and a couple of pounds.

How soon do we forget all the times that Davis got torched last year.

Sure, it would be nice to pick up a fine OLB.

But if the draft goes down like Goose's mock, the Cowboys would have their pick of OLs not named D'Brickashaw at #18. There are worse things that could happen to the Cowboys than adding a very high quality player to the OL.

The OL has been a weak link for the Cowboys for quite some time now.

I think my mock may actually be more accurate than this...... we'll see.

Goss, isn't necessarily an expert on predicting which teams select a certain player, or the order they're taken in the first round.

As I understand it, his real claim to fame, is his Top 100. I think he averages like 93% of his Top 100 prospects, are actually selected in the first 100 picks (which is pretty badass).
