ok the interceptioin that was returned for a td by the giants
romo had called an audible, when he did antonio pierce called his audible and turned around to the defense calling out the signal

would that have been a real good time for romo to have a fire pass or run right up the middle with antonio pierce jumping out of the play and turning his back to our offense? if you get my meaning;

like gurode seeing that too and romo calls a fire pass or run right at pierce right then, if you noticed the middle was left exposed when pierce turned around took a step back to call out signals, etc

Dallas routinely snaps the ball with no time left on the play clock, so by the time the Giants had changed the D Romo probably had no choice. Even with the play call, he needs to see where the D is going post-snap and not throw a gimme out there.

Collinsworth was correct. Romo made a bad throw. You can clearly see that the Boys were running a basic "two man game" that many high schools run to this day. Slant with the outside receiver, deep out with the inside receiver.

All Pierce did was move the Giants defense into cover two in the secondary. Free safety over the top, inside corner playing the flat. Outside corner playing the deeper flat. Pierce was going to try and jump the slant, but his angle was horrible, and Roy would have been gone with no in the middle of the field. One could alternately conclude Pierce had the short flat and the corner had Roy man to man, but it was actually a blown coverage by the Giants. Instead, Romo tries to throw a rope to Crayton in a rush. There was no reason to rush. Watch the play, Roy AND Crayton were wide open. Romo was not fooled and he simply made a bad throw with no touch on it. That's why Roy looked angry, he had 6 or Crayton should have had a first down if Romo gets back, gets set and makes his read. Careless play by Romo.

I think that is an excellent point. I have always wondered why these coaches don't teach teams to take advantage of every opportunity. Go up to the line of scrimmage every now and then, before the defense is set, and snap it. Mix it up and keep them on their toes.

When I saw/heard Pierce audible after Romo's the first thing I thought was "take a time out." Our field position at the time was not that good and a mistake would hurt...and it did. I was also thinking he could have just reaudibled to a draw but I'm pretty sure Romo was alone in the shotgun, am I correct?

Ultimately I was thinking timeout. I wish he had. Hopefully he stores that in the learning bank.

lol to the other posters cept kelly.

to answer your question by the time romo would have made the correct audible to the whole team(which would be hard cause he already checked out of the original play and was in the middle of the audible to the new play...which he would have to check out of, and further possibly confuse the O) the play clock would have run out or the D would be set anyway.

now say pierce does what he did and we had the right play called(like some run right where pierce was) then as soon as he turns around yeah you snap it.

Exactly. Against a division opponent, 1 mistake could cost you the game. The reaction of the defense should have given Romo enough info that there was trouble for that play. Call the Timeout & think your next play over. Rather lose a timeout than to lose the ball & give up a score.
