Gotta give MM some clock management love

Calling timeout at the end of the first half on 4th and 3 was absolutely the correct call. They were going to let the clock run and try a hail mary. Calling timeout there should have forced them to punt but they went for it and missed. We take over and complete a quick 12 yarder and Maher gets a shot at a 60 yarder. MM definitely out-coached Dabol there.

yep I agree. To be honest its not an easy call at all, if the giants convert that 4th and 3 your gonna look dumb there. However it was still the right call in my opinion, why give the giants a free heave at the end zone, force them to punt or go for it.

Peyton Manning doesnt agree with this assessment.

But the passing play called on 3rd and 1 in Q3 was much more egregious to me. MM should not have approved that call by KM.

Everyone was freaking out on the game day thread about how MM messed up. We got a free field goal attempt out of it. It was the right call to make. He catches a lot of grief but that was a good strategic TO call.

MM got that one right.. but he and/or Moore completely botched that 3rd down call after the 2 minute warning. Run the ball there and you eat up another minute of clock and punt it with less than a minute. Throwing it was stupid.. and though we were fortunate enough to complete the pass, it was close enough to the sideline that the receiver got pushed out of bounds. Absolutely inexcusable..

I was a big fan of going for it on 4th down too. Would’ve sucked if they didn’t convert but I like the play call.

I agree. That last third down call was inexcusable. When kneeling down is the much better call than what you chose then you are doing things very wrong. Could have easily cost us. It was so bad of a strategic blunder that you can't excuse it with good calls during the rest of the game. NFL coaches simply cannot be that unaware of the game situation.

The players also need to have situational awareness and not go out of bounds. Rush should have changed that play in the huddle to a run up the middle. This isn't rocket surgery. Any Madden veteran would have made the right call there.

I dont agree. I thought it was a terrible call. Giants could have gotten another 10 yards for a FG and called a timeout for the FG. It was another dumb, over risky play that happened to turn out despite its stupidity.

he tried to take a delay of game penalty, to give the punter 5 more yards.

not realizing the rule book…

because NY declined the penalty.

That is at least one coach fault?
Everyone expected run and a pass was called. Credit to Giants for staying disciplined. Rush had the option to keep it and take the sack or short completion.

Blame Ferguson for jumping up which caused the push instead of staying low to the ground so he would be tackled inbounds.

I am not about to put that on a rookie getting his first extended action on a Monday night game.. The coaches never should have called that play.. and it wouldn't have surprised me if McCarthy had gone up and given Moore and Leroy Jethro Gibbs headslap after it. Run the ball .... tell Zeke or Pollard to run around for as long as possible before going down.. then punt the ball with a minute or so remaining. Throwing that ball was a completely unnecessary risk.. What if someone blows an assignment and Cooper gets blindsided and fumbles and somebody scoops it up and either scores or gets it down close? It was just idiotic game management.

The one at 2:00 was even worse. 40 seconds is worth more than 8 yards there.

I have long maintained that all NFL teams need a DBS (don't be stoopid) coach. Just a guy who sits in the pressbox and does the simple math to compute when a game is over unless you do something stupid. Up two scores with 3 minutes left and the other team has all of its timeouts whaddaya do? You run the ball every play from there on out.. Each run play will eat up 8-10 seconds and a time out.. So after the first three runs you have eaten up 25-30 seconds and all their timeouts.. Punt the ball at 2:30 left.. All the defense has to do is put up a little bit of resistance and even if the other team scores they do so with mere seconds left on the clock. At that point all you have to do is survive the onside kick. Down one score but already in winning FG range? Run the ball three straight times, eat up any and all remaining timeouts if they have any and all the time if they don't. Then kick the damn FG. This nonsense I see every Sunday where some "offensive genius" wants to throw it in that situation makes my blood boil. You're intentionally risking a turnover .. or at the very least stopping the clock on an incomplete pass. Why would you knowingly help the other team? I get that things get crazy down there on the sidelines and coaches lose their minds temporarily.. That's why you need one guy sitting in a booth somewhere who will whisper "Don't be stupid" into the headset at the appropriate times. Or in Kellen Moore's case maybe you need to scream it.. cause he really seems to struggle with the concept of just keeping it simple.. I mean seriously.. passing on first and goal at the 2 foot line? Passing on 3rd and inches? Fire-able offenses if you ask me.
