Maybe our Run D wasn't all that impressive....but i love his coverage scheme

Even if a guy does not make a play, he is in position.....

What i liked was the interception play...were the D-Linemen(spears was it? or coleman?) dropped back, mcnabb did not expect it, and still tried to fit the ball in...i love the creativity and deceptiveness

If anything i know our D will make more plays than last year

Like someone else pointed out in another thread. This is going to be a high risk, high reward defense... At least for a while until guys know their responsibilites.

I agree

I agree, it's a wrok in progress, especially early in the season and lets face it, this defense is still in need of four or five more key players to be what Rob Ryan wants it to be

For now? we maybe need 1 D Tackle(move Rat to end), MAYBE 1 LB

that's it really....If Newman where to leave or not play the same as 2 years ago...then a Corner, possibly a safety

but we are in good shape imo

If Ratliff can somehow eat up space, we will be good to go in my eyes

Agree wholeheartedly. Once they get dialed in, it's is going to be a thing of beauty.

Five players?

LOL.

Right now, I think he's overrated. Why don't we ever look for a DC that just plays smash-mouth defense instead of trying to trick the other team into a mistake? So far, the bulk of the confusion appears to be w/ our own players. And I don't care what position our DBs are in, if they don't learn to turn and look for the ball, it's just going to be one PI call after another.

If we didn't score that ST TD we would have lost this game. (I know, I know, "It's just the pre-season".)..

"It's just preseason" no longer applies. Last pre/regular season proved that. You learn to win during this time of the year as you put new schemes and visions into play.

yeah exactly....i hope he was exaggerating

I would say maybe 2..i still feel if we can nail it down...we can get by with what we have

I like what I am seeing. It is clear that we still are a work in progress but we are seeing flashes now. Detailed game planning (offensive and individual cutups instead of coaches making formation cards based on their film study) will help a lot.

Man way to much teeth gnashing they gave up 17 points last night. If our defense only gives up 17 points on average you have a chance to win any game in today's NFL.

The all mighty Patriots last night that looked like world beaters the last couple weeks got hammered in the preseason and played guys like Chung into the 4th qtr because their secondary played terrible last night. Chung is one of Pats starting safeties for those that do not know.

If the team is playing hard and hitting people then we are in good position once the regular season starts. No way will the defense be perfect or start of perfect; if they keep the mistakes to a minimum as they grow this team has a chance to win each week.

C'mon man, stop making so much sense. Few on this board aren't gonna take to kindly to that.. Watch yourself!!! :D

I'm all for it.
At least the defense will be fun to watch. But, we need some big guys. I'm so tired of seeing the opponent 5 yards into our defense on a consistent basis. And please send the guys to the QB who can tackle him once their hands are on him .... geesh.

The defense is a work in progress, but even when the players fully understand their assignments, bad plays aren't going to disappear. Ryan is aggressive, sometimes he will guess wrong. When he does, the defense will look silly bad.

The hope (Ryan's and ours) is that the defense generates enough high impact, drive disrupting plays to more than make up for the occasional but inevitable clunkers that happen when Ryan guesses wrong.

But you'll see several clunker plays from this defense each game. That's just a part of running Ryan's style of defense.

Wont matter what the coverage scheme is if the D Line continues to get shoved around. Game will always be decided in the trenches.
