Trade#1 (THE trade): Anthony Spencer to Jets for DE Quentin Coples and a 2013 6th

Trade#2: Trade down w/Minnesoto for their 3rd

FA Acquistion:
OG Brian Waters - pro bowler & vet leadership on OL plus economical due to age/preference to play for Texas team

Draft:

1st l OL DJ Fluker l Alabama l 6'5 335 5.31
*Better 40 time than Joeckel; Huge, agile and nasty blocker; RT or RG

2nd l FS David Amerson l North Carolina State l 6'1 205 4.44
*Perfect cover 2 safety: Big, Physical & Ballhawk (13 INTs in 2011)

3rd l DT Brandon Williams l Missouri Southern l 6'1 335 5.37
*Powerful 1 technique w/pass rush ability & proven playmaker: 2012 MIAA DPOY & 3 time ACFA All American; averaged 8 sacks in 3 seasons

3rd l SS Shamarko Thomas l Syracuse l 5'9 213 4.42
*Bob Sanders clone minus the injury DNA; compact, not small & will hit like a ton of bricks

4th l RB/KR Kenjon Barner l Oregon l 5'9 195 4.38
*Homerun hitter every time touches ball; ceiling = Marshall Faulk, floor = Darren Sproles

5th l OG/C JC Tretter l Cornell l 6'4 310 5.09
*All Ivy League; former TE w/excellent athleticism, strength & intangibles

6th l SLB Cooper Taylor l Richmond l 6'4 230 4.57
*Prototypical 4-3 SLB: Long, fast and uber-physical; converted from SS - Jimmy would approve

6th l DE Quanterus Smith l Western Kentucky l 6'5 250 4.74
*Was leading the nation w/12.5 sacks before his leg injury; will redshirt for 2013 but will be groomed to rotate w/Ware on weakside

If we move Spencer we need a pick...hopefully an early to mid 2nd rounder.

You guys are dreaming to think you will get a 2nd rounder for Spencer and his age/salary. If he was 25 and had the year he did last year maybe...

I like all the players in the mock; however, why would the Jets trade Quentin Coples (2012 pick #16) for Spencer?

Yeah not sure the Jets trade makes a ton of sense either....

But remove that and I love the draft for the most part. Only thing I would change would to remove Thomas and add a guy who could start at SLB day 1 like Collins/Gooden/Hodges.

How is the 40 time relevant for a tackle? Seriously. I don't care if he has a 40 time better than Chris Johnson, it's irrelevant for a tackle.

Hmmm, it would be relevent then because he'd be our short yardage RB.;)

Well if he were THAT fast he'd be our every down RB. :D

Nobody else thinks its weird that the OP has us taking 2 safeties in the first three rounds?

Yeah, I'd probably become a UFL fan if this draft happened.

Because the Jets are desperate for a double digit pass rusher at OLB. They are a 3-4 team and 3-4 teams value pass rushing OLB much more than they would a 3-4 DE.

I do not think I am pushing the envelope with this reasoning.

It speaks to his underrated athleticism. If it the 40 was irrelevant then why do they have the tackles run it then. I am not a combine guy, but they have the players run through hoops for a reason.

Why? Darren Sproles, as good as he is, is a specialist. Sproles is great returner, change of pace back and receiver out of the backfield.

If you knew anything about Barner, then you would know he excelled in college and was very productive due to his speed, vision and receiving ability.

You don't think safety is a need now that the only proven safety on the team is gone? If not Shamarko, then Fresno State's Phillip Thomas or take a flyer on Ray Ray Armstrong in UDFA.
