Governor's Cup

lol @ this "That's pre-2007 talk".

The mentality of that organization and its fans hasn't changed in a mere 3 years.

Geeee, and here I was convinced the Texans fans commaned the team to win, and that the city of Houston would all but cease to exist w/o that win last Sat!?

Not true actually. The mentaity HAS changed. Back in 2007, Houston would jump up and down for 8 wins. Nowadays, we better make the playoffs or Kubiak is gone. The biggest thing here though is the difference between Carr and Schaub. So, to say the mentality hasn't changed in thre years is completely false.

Rudyard Kipling
If

If
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"; If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

How can there truly be a rivalry if the teams meet once every 4 years? Only fans believe that it's a "rivalry". The players probably hate Tennessee/Jacksonville/Indianapolis much more than any player from Dallas. The next time these two teams meet in the regular season probably 50% of each roster will be different.

Wait, we played Houston? I thought the season hadn't started yet!?!

WHEN we beat them, we get another "W"....that's all I care about....could care less about the "cup".

Perhaps you are from an alternate universe or something because I have several friends and family who live in Houston and have most of their lives and they hate the Cowboys more than any team in the NFL. There is a rivalry but it's one-sided with Texans fans. Very few Cowboys fans care about the Texans beyond wanting a win like every other week.

The only rivalries the Cowboys have are with NFC East opponents. The rest of the league is simply a means to an end. Texans fans on the other hand are so desperate for validation that beating the Cowboys, even in preseason, makes their season.

Not a chance. I have no idea who is saying "if we beat the Cowboys, it'll be a good season). That's pre-2007 talk right there. People down in Houston are looking at the playoffs, not Cowboys in Week 3. You think Texans fans will honestly be okay with another 8-8 record, as long as we beat the Cowboys? Hell, Kubiak will be gone if we have that record again. Like I said, take a visit to TexansTalk and you'll see.

And like I said earlier, the rivalry between Houston and Dallas has been going on since they were founded and will continue until the world ends. It's much more than sports. It's good for the state of Texas when Houston and Dallas sports teams are facing each other. If there wasn't a rivalry, CBS 11, during the pregame show on Saturday, would not have taken shots at Houston and the Texans. The rivalry is definitely there.

According to who? You? Rivalry, eh? :lmao:

Well you have some short sighted friends then. I lived in Houston (still have a home there), but currently live in Arlington, and you can ask almost any Texans fan on the street, or at the fan sites which team they'd rather beat: Colts in Week 1 or the Cowboys in Week 3, and most would say the Colts. It seems to me only Cowboy fans are still stuck on the old Texans when they strived to beat the Cowboys in the preseason.

I was unaware Texans fans lived in Arlington. I lived in Arlington for 3 years now and lived in Texas for 7. I never met a Texans fan before or I never met a person who or claimed to be one.

Time out

There actually is a "governor's cup" based on the result of a preseason game?

Please tell me this is a joke.

Pretty sure the Missouri teams do it as well.

Looks like Kubiak is gone then, because yall are going to get ganged raped by the Colts, so the odds of winning the division is slim and none for yall. So we are talking wildcard, and since the Jets and Pats are both in the same division, one will get first wildcard. That leaves the Texans vs. the rest of the AFC for 1 single playoff spot.

Yea, right...............see ya Kubiak.

They actually showed the trophey during the game, I almost fell off the couch laughing so hard. The Texans actually have a trophey with a security guard standing by it.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

What a loser franchise, I bet they even have a big trophey case in the Texans HQ to display it for all to see.!!!!!!

I'm not from Texas, but I was under the impression the rest of Texas understood that Houston was nationally known to be a joke-city. There's not some notion in-state of an actual rivalry with Dallas, is there?

You don't think it goes back to the Oiler days? Hell, the Oilers use to stomp the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The hatred just carried over with the Texans, but that doesn't mean we consider the Cowboys our rivals. Don't flatter yourselves. Texans fans would rather beat the Colts or Titans over the Cowboys anyday. And if you honestly think Texans fans are okay with however the season turns out since we beat the Vowboys, then you're seriously mistaken. I find that only Cowboy fans still cling on to this, for some odd reason. Go look at any Texans fan site. We could care less. Our first team did well against Dallas' first team, and that's all that matters. Governor's Cup? There wasn't even a Governor's Cup thread at the Texans forum, but there is one here.

You're still carrying on this fight?

In the words of Shakespeare, "Methinks she doth protest too much."

Sadly, I'm completely serious. The word you hear most frequently is 'armpit' and the fairest, most concise description you typically hear is 'armpit with jobs.'

To be fair, I got to overnight in Houston this summer on my way back from a nice place, and I have to admit that it was one of the fanciest Shoney's I'd ever been in. They must be revitalizing things. Congrats on the recent progress, and on winning the preseason Governor's Cup.

But you don't. We already know. Thank you. :)

I don't think anyone here really cares enough to go to a Texans website. You, on the other hand, are actually posting on a Cowboys message board. Wonder who actually cares about this "rivalry?" :rolleyes:
