A......because it's a quality player (elite to some) and if it doesn't work out the cowboys get a premium compensation pick back in 2028. Plus the 2nd round picks have been a failure since like the Jacob Rodgers days...

I still don’t understand why people worry about the picks.

The entire point of draft picks is to hope to draft good players.

The odds of landing a CB of Porters caliber in the 2nd round are very low.
And it's a 2028 one. I can't point my finger to why people value picks so much. Part of me feels like they just want to have something to root for om draft day. We have enough prospects. Let's get some vets.

B+

He’s arguably a top 10 CB in the league and he cost a 6th, and a 2nd two years from now. The chances of getting someone of his talent with either of those picks would be in the single-digit percentile.

I’m not giving it an A- because I’d prefer we traded for a DL or LB. And he obviously needs a new contract. The rumor I’ve seen is he does not want to set a record or anything, but he does want more guaranteed than Pittsburgh was willing to pay.

If Parker lets Porter play to his strengths often (man coverage), which would allow Downs to be freed up more to become the menace he was in college, then it’s an A+ trade.

JPJ is the true CB1 that we were all hoping Bland would magically become or Revel would develop into.
Just adding on the Steelers philosophy and why guaranteed money is a problem for them.

While all teams are owned by billionaires, with the exception of the Pack, not all billionaires are the same.

The Rooney family has almost all of their wealth tied up in the team. They don’t have substantial outside revenue streams and rely on the day to day operations of the team and the leagues revenue sharing to keep them going. Asset rich but cash poor.

Guaranteed money all has to be put into escrow at the time of the contract signing.

Rich, aggressive, teams use this option as a competitive advantage in contract negotiations and teams like the Steelers lag behind. Bengals and Colts are kind of in this boat too.

So, sometimes these contract negotiations aren’t as clear cut as “greedy player bad”, sometimes it’s just “conservative owner bad”.

Because any draft pick could be Tom Brady. It’s like gambling or the lottery.

Until reality hits it’s fun to lean back in the recliner and fantasize about how many Super Bowls we’ll win with all those future hall of famers.

We give up draft resources for a good player that won't help a defense that can't even make opposing QB's get nervous in the pocket.

A+ He'll be our Gonzales, Witherspoon, Surtain a CB1. I'm pretty sure he'll outplay Kelvin Joseph who was also taken with a second round pick. If something doesn't work out they'll probably get get a good comp pick.

Is that 2028 second round pick in the room with us right now?

We gave up a 2028 resource to help in 2026. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

He won't help our defense? This needs some explaining. Are you familiar with this player?

B+ for me. Moves to an A if we sign him long term. I think QB, RT, DE and CB are the most important positions. Upgrading one of these positions is always a big deal

F. Doubtful he alters a single game from L to W.
Still miss the playoffs

A, assuming they sign him. A proven commodity who will solidify a positional weakness for the next few years.

I don't think some of you guys realize how bad th d compensation was for him. A 2028 second rounder is the value of a 3rd rounder in 2027 if not worse.
I think it's because he's not the guy/position that people wanted, and that's understandable.

Because this is otherwise a great value for a 26 year old top 10ish corner. It's the type of move another team would make and there would be countless posts of "Why couldn't we have done that?"

This is an A because it gives up everything we wont get. Our FANS love this.

It doesnt put us in the playoffs. It doesnt immediately upgrade the defense, because there are still heavy wounds that arent solved.

Its going to be expensive to keep him when and if we need it, if the defense fixes itself hes on the end of his current deal. He might walk if he has a decent year.

We love giving away draft picks, regardless of where they are at, less is better for us. We always hit home runs in Free Agency, who needs the draft.
How many more failed second round picks do you want them to draft?

I understand that to an extent. But we needed corners. I just feel the dream of Maxx Crosby is clouding judgement. He wasn’t as obtainable as people think.
