Grade the Tyler Booker picks

A- for the player
D for the value, Guard at #12 is insanity

My final grade was a C- but should have been an F because Grant went right after. Again, I like the player but it really doesn’t move the needle next season. Grant or another DT would have helped the run defense massively.
I was wanting Grant or Tyleik but I know people would have complaining about them getting picked at number 12. But I am OK with Booker because I believe he will be a starter in a long time fixture on the Oline.

I realize people assume he will be a RG, but he also could plug in at LG, and allow Smith to shift to LT, and Guyton and Steele to fight it out at RT. We drafted Smith to play LT and if Guyton can’t develop, then Booker gives us a plan B.
This. It gives them complete flexibility. If Guyton isn't progressing satisfactorily at T, they could even shift him inside to see if some time at G helps him transition.

Or should I be more disappointed that we draft for need at pick #12 and not BPA??
Who was BPA?

IMO the draft played out exactly as it had been projected. We were sitting in a stretch of picks where it was no man's land. All the players remaining would have probably been rated in the "20's" in most drafts. No one wants to offer much to trade up as a result.

So, of the group of players who was available he was probably the most accomplished & with the fewestquestions. I can't get mad at them for picking him from what was available even though I'm not a fan of a G that high in normal circumstances. Nolen would have been the strongest alternative for me. If Nolen blossoms, it will be a little bitter because we really needed interior D. (I don't care that we already have Osa).

You win on the offensive and defensive lines.

You win with character.

We got better in both areas. Line and Character. I voted it as an A- but only because you just never know with the draft.

Tone setter for the OL. They said they wanted guys that love football and to get physical in the trenches. Just look at the Super Bowl, the Eagles had good OL play and the Chiefs didn't. Mahomes was running for his like back there. Ben Johnson knows the importance of the IOL, the bears signed Thuney, Jackson, and Dalman in the offseason. If they're going to make a push in the offseason this was a necessary upgrade, not the only one but an important one.

Two-year starter and team captain with elite physical traits. Booker is a downhill run blocker with average explosiveness into first contact, but he utilizes his size and power to overtake defenders in the second phase of the block. He can play too far out over his toes but that’s correctable. Booker is an average athlete in protection but makes up for it with technique and football intelligence to defend against twists. He’s tough, smart and a top leader. The traits, football character and play strength will make him a good starter for a downhill, power-based attack.

B+ that may end up becoming an A in short order. Good pick, even if a little too high.

B minus. He wasn’t on my radar at 12, so I can’t really give a high grade. In all honesty I wasn’t crazy about the options at 12 anyway.

Regardless Dallas needs to find some playmakers who can scare defenses. If they add a few, I would be fine with booker. If they don’t, it is going to be hard to compete against the better teams.

This is actually two questions. One is grade the player. two is grade the pick, meaning is this a good pick for Dallas?

I have no issue with the player. I will give him an A grade. He could be great. But the goal is not to see who can pick the most HoF players, it is to win the Super Bowl. WE already had Zack Martin at RG. He was great. But Dallas didn't win any Super Bowls. Never got to an NFC Championship game. Why do we think Booker is going to push Dallas any further into the playoffs?

This team lacks playmakers who make big plays when they are needed. We have CeeDee on offense, and honestly, no one on defense. With the 12th pick in the draft, take a playmaker. Take a guy who will do something great when the chips are down. Find the guy who will be an obvious upgrade. I get not taking a RB at 12. But why not the TE who is versatile, made tons of plays in college and could at least add something to an offense that was pretty awful last year?

I suppose we have to wait and see how the rest of the draft goes but we have 2 more picks today to make a difference.

Booker was one of 12 they had a 1st round grade on….if you believe the Front Office

Am I grading the player and how I think he plays? A+
Or am I grading how much I like the pick? B-/C+

Seems like the board agrees it was a good pick. As of my vote it was 98 B- or above to 32 C+ or below.

I dislike the pick more for what it says about where the team is headed than anything else. Schottenheimer runs the ball. It's what he does. It's all he does. It's why he never has good offenses. But it's clearly what he's going to do here.
