Grading the FA

On BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1, he grades the FA with the contract that they got. He gave the Cowboys the following grades:

Doug Free: A+
Kyle Kosier: A+ called it a steal, I believe
Marcus Spears: C+, talented DE with motivational issues.

Just FYI, he was not to high on the Cullen Jenkins or Jason Babin deals with the Eagles. Did give the Eagles a A+ for the Nnamdi deal but said it is risky signing a 30 yearl old but the Eagles drafted 27 year old so they are all in at this point to win a Super Bowl.

I like that he properly includes free, Kosier, and Spears in our group because, of course, they were free agents just like Nnamdi and others were.

It's sort of the catch-all that web-medium folks use to describe someone who they don't really know, who they remembered being hyped coming out of school, but who didn't really turn into a superstar.

I agree B for Kosier. Dallas came into the FA with 1st priority get Doug Free signed (Check) 2nd address the DL, most did not think we could get Spears back and we did. I wished we could have also kept Bowen but in my opinion Spears was the better of Bowen, Hatcher and Spears. 3rd is address safety that has not been done yet but I fully expect to see a safety signed

It makes sense. Spears always struck me as a guy who could play better. He's a real good run defender but I think he's capable of collapsing the pocket more than he does.

He's a bit of an underachiever.

I think some perceive him taht way because he was highy touted coming out of college and isn't a big impact play guy in the pros. Of course, 34 DE isn't really an impact play kind of position, and as far as I can tell Spears busts his hump pretty hard to do the dirty work on the D-line. I liked Bowen, but I think we lost something when Spears went down.
