There is more to playing DE then getting sacks, Freeney is a disruptive force and a top 5 DE. If Leonard Davis is worth 50 million Freeney is a bargain at 72.

I don't see as much of Carolina as you but what you describe is the case with every defensive player in the league -- there isn't a single guy who is dominant every game.

Jason Taylor was awsome last year and won DPOY - yet he had two games without a single solo tackle and several other pedestrian outings. Shawne Merriman who was cheating also had a few of those games.

Guys just don't dominate every single game.

You are right. It is hard to be dominate every single week. I think Peppers is more gifted that Jason Taylor and probably every other DE in the league(still doesn't make him a OLB ). Peppers for some reason just does not get the most out of his talent. It is strange. Maybe he gets bored or something. When he is on, he is awesome. I just can't believe how inconsistent he can be.

He can't cover the run and he is an undersized player who relies soley on his speed. If he gets an achilles injury in this upcoming season or in the next few this is going to be a pain for the Colts. (not to mention if he gets the injury in his 30's)

Freeney REALLY shows how much it helps to be in the right system. No way this guy gets this money on any other team other than 3-4 others.

The colts should have tried to make a play at somebody like Elis Dumervil by giving up a draft pick or Kabeer Gbaja-Biamilla this upcoming offseason.... they could have saved themselves alot of dough.

I Don't even think I would give that money to a player like julius peppers, a much more talented player.

Side note: Julius Peppers is not the best player in the NFL. Though Taylor deserved the defensive player award, he fanned out at the end of the season, while Champ Bailey was playing like gangbusters all the way to the end. Champ is the best defensive player in the NFL right now, and honestly I can't really compare what he does on defense to anything except what Charles Woodson did at Michigan taking half of the field away from the offense when he played.

based on last season numbers that comes out to 13 mill a sack. :lmao:

nice math man!

bad logic though

if he had 57 sacks through his first 5 seasons say in his sixth he would have ten

so he is getting about milion per sack.

still outrageous.

but he is a game changer i suppose.
