Great? Choker? Romo turned the tide...

Perhaps this belongs as simply a post in the other two Romo threads but I wanted to make a point I think has been missing unless I overlooked it. Forgive me if this is redundant.

Whether Romo is ever considered great or just decent I think he more than any other player represents the Cowboys return to competitiveness after the 3 of 4 run and infamous 5-11 years.

Don't give me the 10-6 Quincy year. It was proven to be a mirage.

But when Romo stepped in for Bledsoe on that night in 2006 this franchise was almost instantly transformed from a team that was on its way back to a team that most of the time went toe to toe with the best the league had to offer. The Cowboys began winning games BECAUSE of the QB position. Long time coming...

Yes, you can point to season-ending disappointment in everyone of those 5 Romo lead seasons. But don't forget that it had been too long since we could even imagine that kind of disappointment. This team never had the opportunity to feel excruciating disappointment until Romo gave them the chance to get in the sweepstakes.

If Romo was a choker, he wouldn't have beaten Buffalo after his miserable start. He was clutch when he needed to be. He was clutch in beating the Giants on that picture perfect throw to Witten. (I forgot which game that was), and even in the playoff loss to the Giants, if Crayton had caught Romo's perfect pass, or hadn't stopped his route on a perfect throw, this "choke" stuff would never even been suggested. He bobbled the snap against Seattle, but if Parcells hadn't handcuffed him the whole game, nobody would even remember that play. Romo's fourth quarter QB rating clearly shows that he is better when the chips are down. He has made some mistakes, but so did Staubach. Even Captain America, or Captain Comeback, whichever you prefer did not always manage to win.
Romo is by far the best QB we've had since Aikman, and I truly believe he will prove all the doubters wrong.

Must be nice playing under a Garrett offense which passes a lot down field - And it must be nice to have played with some of the most gifted wide receivers and tight Ends to ever play the game, and now blessed with a talent like Dez Bryant - I'm betting multiple other QBs could come under Garrett's offense and take us to multiple Super bowls over the course of the next 3 or 4 years.

You see it's easy to put up those numbers in Garrett's offense in the regular season, but in the post season where you face the best of the best defensively, if your game isn't up to par, you will be a Danny White or a Jim Kelly, or hundreds of other QBs who couldn't win it all.

We should probably look at the true star that's taken us out of the gutter and that's Jason Garrett, not Tony Romo.

Because it's Garrett's offense and those other players that miraculously avoid the rush and makes Houdiniesque plays behind that OL. Riiiiiiiiiiiight.....

Garrett deserves credit he has also taken blame from many around here on his play calling. There very well could be some QB's who would do very well in this system and there are many who would get their brains kicked in because of an OL that has played poorly at times especially vs quality defense.

I'm just sick of Tony having to be defended. He's the freakin' 4th highest rated QB of all time. He's 1.5 seasons away from being the Cowboys all time TD leader and not far off from having every record in the Cowboys book. He's has one of the top winning% in the league and keeps our offense in the top 3 yet get's blamed because our Defense sucks.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I hope when it's contract time, he tell the team to go kick rocks and wins on another team that will appreciate him for being one of the top QBs in the league.

I hope he along with this team can get over the hump to help put this to rest. I would hate to lose Romo just so others could learn some lesson.

I'm not talking about teaching some of our clueless fans a lesson. I'm just sick of hearing about it. It's old and will never end. Even if he wins us a SB, the same fools that think he is currently the problem will say he wasn't responsible for the SB win. It will never end and it's just annoying. We are the only team with fans that can't support their players.

The first two years it was Tony Sparano's offense.

And by "most gifted wide receivers and tight Ends to ever play the game", are you saying there were others besides TO and Witten?

I used this one earlier this week, but I have to say it again: Obvious troll is obvious.

I'm willing to live with the annoyance if that means Romo continue to be the QB. I guess you just have to accepect other opinion even if you don't agree with it

You have two future Hall-of-Famers right there. It's not like Tony was working with camp bodies there...

Which top QB is throwing to camp bodies?

Yet the team sputtered until Romo took the helm. And then it took off. That's my point in this thread. The team took an obvious step up when Romo was inserted at QB.

Yeah and we have one of the top 3-4 offenses in the league combined with Tony so what's your point?

Guess Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach had no weapons either ..... correct?

None, they did it alone didn't hear that. :laugh2:
There was some guy named Irvan or Irvin but he was just a camp body. :laugh2:

Smith and Irvin sucked, it's common knowledge.

I think the main thing when you go back and look at the games is how the OL gave Troy a clean pocket to work from and their ability to pick up a blitz leaving Troy's Weapons in one on one.

Tony doubters won't change their mind until he brings in a few rings. We should be more like Romo and just ignore them. He will eventually prove himself to some of them but others will never be satisfied. Romo doesn't worry about them because he has his own standard he is living up to. He didn't ask anyone for a list of accomplishments he needs to achieve, instead he just goes out there on Sundays and does what he can to lead the team to victory.
