Great Draft for #2 Receivers

While I don't believe this draft features any obvious true #1 type WRs (ie. Julio Jones or A.J. Green), there are a slew of quality #2-type wideouts which we could be in the market for dependent on what we do with Terrance Williams and how we view Brice Butler.

I'm not suggesting we go WR in the early rounds but looking at a few options that could be available to us if we do.

(in no specific order)

Mike Williams - Clemson - 6'3" 225 lbs
He may be the one wideout I could see developing into a team's legitimate, longterm #1 receiver. IMO, he compares favorably to LaQuan Treadwell coming out last year but with more polish. He's had a great bounce year from a serious injury (neck) in 2015 and depending on his Combine, I could see him going anywhere from #10-25 in the 1st round. He'd make a great bookend to Dez, giving Prescott a slightly smaller (relatively speaking) version of what Newton has in Funchess and Benjamin; big targets with huge catch radiuses that help the QB, as well as insurance down-the-road should we part ways w/Dez.

JuJu Schuster-Smith - USC - 6'2" 220 lbs
I'm a huge JuJu fan, but I simply don't see him as a true #1. IMO, he's more of a Super #2 ala Anquan Boldin. Smith is a thug on the field, reminding me of a mix between Dez and Pierre Garcon. He plays with a rugged style and is very active on run-blocking which fits in well with our style. The Combine is going to be huge for him because there is questions about his explosiveness and deep speed. I think he'll end up timing in the high 4.5s-4.6 area and should be available to us in the backend of the 1st, but could drop to the middle of the 2nd round.

Corey Davis - Western Michigan - 6'2" 215 lbs
Prolific small-school star. He's been on draftnik radars for a few years now. Whenever I watch him the player that instantly comes to mind is Donald Driver (former Packer) and that's a good thing. You would think coming from a WMU, he'd have limited route experience, but the coaching staff has used him out of the slot, out wide and running virtually every route. He's devastating on the slant and could be a more realistic target for us in the 2nd round should he last.

John Ross - Washington - 5'11" 190 lbs

If you've watched him play this year you watched a guy playing at a different speed. While he does compare w/DeSean Jackson in terms of explosiveness in-and-out of breaks and deep speed, I think he's got a much better, thicker and proportioned build than Jackson. This is the guy some Cowboy fans have been clamoring for to stretch the field. IMO, he goes somewhere between #10-25 in the 1st round as some team wanting to add that deep dimension to their passing game will nab him. He also adds value as an accomplished KR (4 TDs).

Cooper Kupp - Eastern Washington - 6'2" 215 lbs

Ultra-productive player with an NFL lineage from a smaller division that I have a feeling will be an even better pro. Kupp raised his level of play when EWU played quality opponents (see vs. Oregon 2015). The Combine/workouts will be important to how he tests out and projects in the NFL. I think he safely projects as a Round 2-3 player.

This is a non-exhaustive list. Tell me what guys you're following.

Could get one of the LSU receivers in the 4th. Both very underrated due to bad QB play and the offense focused around leonard Fournette. Travin Dural was getting comparisons to Deandre Hopkins.

The 2 big Texas A&M receivers are good too. Deep threats, red zone threats, hard to tackle, good blockers in the run game.

I like the Adarius Stewart from Alabama as a development prospect. Also, forgot to list Travis Randolph on that list.

Their are a good amount of solid #2 recivers. A handful of burners & tons of big all around players.

Big Juju Smith fan.

I think he projects as a true #1 WR. If he is there, and the top pass rushers are gone, then you definitely take him.

I like Cooper Kupp too. I think he would be a consistent, dependable, sure-handed, top level route runner, for Dak

Travin Dural was hampered by terrible qb play at lsu. I think he's a stud reciever that will shine in the NFL as a #2. Wouldn't be one bit shocked to see him have a Michael Thomas type of rookie season.

Mike Williams will be drafted to be someone's number 1. He might be the only receiver in this draft to grade out as a round 1 pick, and he is going top half.

I have made it pretty obvious that Kupp is my #1 pet cat in this draft.

Thanks for doing this, you are so right about this being a down year for WR's I am not as optimistic as you are about more than one guy going in the first rd. I think B Williams and possibly Butler will be gone next year. We need someone to step up to take their places. Lots of #2's this year like you stated. It is just that this will be a third rd pick at the earliest if the draft goes according to need. DE/CB/WR.

Here is a couple of names that interest me if they come out. Leadbelly named one.

Allen Lazard from Iowa State. Does not have break away speed but he does have the size they like, great hands, runs really good routes, seems to me kind of like Witten where he always manages to get open when you need him but again...he does not have that deep speed. I think he said he might not come out this year but that could change.

Shelton Gibson Jr WVU - Homer pick for sure but if you want a deep threat...this is your man. That's what he is used for and that is what he does. He has averaged over 20 yards per catch last year and so far this year. I have no clue if he is coming out or staying at WVU.

IMO, Lazard looks like a guy who could be one of those hybrid TE types like Finley or Graham.

I don't know how I forgot about Dede Westbrook. Similar take on him as John Ross; has some Antonio Brown in his game.
