I was reading the dallas morning news this morning, and saw where Jerry Jones, whom has done a super job of free agents, draft picks-letting Jeff Ireland choose picks, etc. that JJ said we would probably get a kickoff specialist.

With the draft, free agents, our only glaring weaknesses to me, if we get a kickoff specialist is our iffy offensive line. (yet, reports are that Petti even has done some dancing to improve his footsteps, etc, along with working out harder then he ever has. Next, you have reports that columbo by coaches is having a great offseason, strongest he has been in years. Then, you have coaches raving about Kosier's quickness in workouts, that they were really surprised. True, he wil never be the strong guy like Larry Allen, but he is quick, and big, can pull too.

So, in conclusion to me, if offensive line is fixed, kickoff specialist singned, then only glaring weakness is at experienced QB if Bledsoe goes down. However, reports are coming out now, that Henson is going to make things interesting in preseason for number 2 job at QB with Tony Romo. Which will only make things better, by pushing Tony Romo. So, looks like barring unseen serious injuries like we had last year, with Flozell, Campbell, Riveria, Dat, Singleton & Henry, maybe this year, Lord willing no injuries. And look out, other teams here we come.

Thanks for the Info on the Kickoff specialist.

After the draft and the recent updates about undrafted rookie FA's and none of them being kickers I was starting to wonder if they were just going to make Mike J do kickoffs and not bring in anyone else.

Still figure they will bring in at least one guy for rotation purposes in camp but was not sure about a full time kick off guy.

I would love to see us pick up Josh Huston from Ohio State, the guy has a big time leg and can put the ball out of the endzone

Huston came through in a big way for the Buckeyes, impressively replacing former All-American and Day 1 draft pick Mike Nugent (N.Y. Jets). He missed time earlier in his career due to knee and hip injuries. He converted a 57-yard field-goal attempt in the team's 2004 spring game. His best asset would seemingly be his ability to convert kickoffs into touchbacks, as 49 of his 70 kickoffs went for touchbacks this past season. However, he did not boom his kickoffs at the Combine -- many of them were of the line-drive variety and lacked ideal hang time. He has shown very good accuracy on his field goals, making 20-of-24 attempts as a senior, but tends to have a lower-than-desired trajectory on some of his longer attempts, which can lead to them being blocked, especially since in the pros you can rush/pressure the snapper. Overall, a solid placekicking prospect with the leg strength and accuracy to be a solid NFL kicker if he continues very good kickoffs and improves his trajectory height.

oh we'll get a kickof guy for the preseason --- we don't want to wear out Vanderjagt -- I think his kickoff "problems" in Indy were more about being asked to kickoff 6-7 times each game -- that's a lot of kicking and running for a PK to do. Despite our improved offense he won't have that problem here.

Hmmm....I am not sure thats a good thing. When hes your target in FA you should pretty much know everything about him. To find out after you signed him that hes quick and thats a surprise to you, well that makes me wonder what else dont they know about him. His playing speed should have been a known quantity. Somehow I am not getting that warm fuzzy feeling from this guy.

I hate losing a roster spot, we are building some good depth... It's hurts now to cut our players.....

I was thinking the same thing. At least LA is gone so he wouldn't have to worry about getting his azz beat.

Losing a roster spot is great news?

Especially for another kicker.

Not in my world.

he wasnt saying that they didnt know he was quick, but they didnt know he was as quick as he showed in workouts . . .

Hostile, i completely agree. i would hate to see a roster spot go to a freaking Kickoff Specialist, im sorry but we have 4TE on the roster now, we have tons of LBs and OL just so we dont repeat last year and that will take off a minimum of 4 more roster spots we didnt have last year, a few players were inactive last year because of us not having enough room on the roster.

Really, he almost has to... but if you're gonna dedicate a position to kickoff specialist, the guy had best be an honest to Gawd boomer... lots and lots of touchbacks...

He signed with the Bears... too bad, he was one I had targeted...

I really figure that the kickoff specialist will be somebody the Cowboys pluck off another roster late in preseason, on the mandatory cut dates...

Speaking of kickers, though, didn't the Boys cut Shawn Suisham?? I ask because their official website still has him on the roster...

I would like to see them bring in Connor HUghes from UVA, if you are going to have a KO specialist, he ought to be a young guy you can bring on to replace Vanderjaqt.

Connor Hughes is a fine, accurate kicker, but his leg strength is substandard... he'd be a terrible choice for a kickoff man...

I figure going to the 2 TE set means Polite is on the bubble.

It also explains why Sowell never even got a sniff.
