This board has been going back and forth over whether we should take Manny Lawson or Bobby Carpenter, and I've heard both sides of the story.

I love me some DeMarcus Ware and I would not want to trade him for anyone. With that being said, the one thing I like about Merriman ( and it shows in his play) is how mean this cat is. He is one big mean poppa if you ask me. Just the type that will run over or thru you and then spit on your carcass.

Do we have any of those on the team? Do you remember Eric Williams? Just a mean spirited indivual, that you would be completely intimidated by. Or Randy White?

Well I think the mean guy is Carpenter, I've heard. And if I'm wrong, please correct me. But I know that you have to have talent with the mean, but I believe Carpenter has plenty of talent. He had 8 sacks for an OLB while Lawson had 10.5 for an every down Lineman.

So the question is, do you take a Great average tempered Talent (Lawson) or a mean spit in your face, slap your momma type in (Carpenter).

For my money, I will take the mean guy.

easy question.

This team definately needs a mean S.O.B. on defense. So yeah, I'd definately take a mean *** talented player over a "good character, good ole school boy" anyday.

EDIT: Killer Keith Davis has shown that type of attitude, now if only he could pick it up on the talent end. I like him on special teams though, great player

it's like size, if you can play, doesn't matter what type of attitude you have...and at one point in time, TO being a mean S.O.B wasn't exactly thought of in a good light, or still isn't, a mean attitude is great, but it's getting overrated on here

I think Roy Williams is a great player but I always joke that my one problem with him is he's just too darn nice. I mean, there's nothing he can do about it, it's just his personality. He's always smiling and having fun. There's nothing wrong with that but I know what you mean. It's too bad Roy isn't a little more like Ronnie Lott who would spear his own mother to win a football game.

Note: I'm not saying that Roy is a bad player. I'm just saying with the way he hits, he's not the mean SOB you would expect him to be. Ironically, he may be the nicest guy on the team.

To me, Roy W. is the epitome of the guy you're talking about...

He's such a softie off the field. Almost embarassingly so... :)

But on the field, he's an intimidator. Remember the Texans pre-season game last year? Ooh that was fun to watch...

Everyone knows the learning curve Ware faced last year. But then that was last year. This year, if he gets it, we're gonna have us a fun season.

I like a defense with some nastiness to it. I think nice guys give up to easy. That's one thing I wish we had now, is a real bastid on defense to get the others riled up.

I'll take a lean, mean, killing machine anytime on the field. Although Ware is a nice guy, he does look mean on the field. I like the guys with split personalities.

Someone on the Texans did something to piss off Roy. He told them, more than once, "You done f***** up now!"

He then proceeded to knock the everlivin' crap out of a few Texans. Way too much for preseason, and he had more than a few guys hearing footsteps. :laugh2:

Damn near decapitated their TE, if I remember correctly.

The one thing about "mean guys" is that this personality often carries over off the field. Give me a tough and smart guy. Being mean equates to jack for me.

Haley Haley Haley. Loved that guy on the field. He would take his Moms purse, and give it to the robber.

I just like those guys that don't put up with squat, as long as they are great players. Remember "pup" Kevin Smith. He was mean mean mean, and he drove Jerry Rice nuts. Keith Davis is one of the meanest players on the field right now.

Offensive player...I'd rather he be "nice"...and does not fire up the opposition.
Defensive player...I like em mean. Rip their freaking head off and intimidate the other team at every turn.

Just my $0.02

Aikman was mean on the field a little, and I think Drew Bledsoe has some of the mean and fire in him.
I also thought that Michael Irvin was a mean dude on the field, not to mention Larry Allen.

boy, when you look at it that way...ray lewis would be absolutely perfect

but i think bradie james has that edge to him, and despite not seeing the field much ryan fowler certainly seems to have that type of attitude

I agree. I'll take guys like Lee Roy Jordan who was as tough as they come on the field and as nice as could be off it. He was very intelligent and was the key to the "Flex Defense" because of his smarts. He was the leader on defense and NO ONE messed with Lee Roy.

I never met him but I did see him smiling and joking with some kids while signing autographs after a game once. It just stuck with me how he could be so mean and tough on the field and so nice off it.
