I don’t know why everybody thinks this team will sign Wagner. Not hating on your post, but just don’t think they would ever sign even Wagner. Even less so after LVE
I don't necessarily think they wouldn't sign Wagner no matter what, but I do agree that re-signing LVE probably killed any possibility of it.

They're still sticking to what they normally do in free agency. Fill holes with cheap players. Until they break that pattern, I'd assume Wagner is a definite no. We're lucky they made a couple of trades.

What a difference from prior years. I'm waking up and excitedly "running" to social media to see if we signed someone else!
At this point I'm not even looking for a ton. Give me Wagner and Hankins and then an OG early in the draft and I think this team can really compete. Ideally we find an impact 3 tech of course, but I just don't see that out there in free agency so take what we can to improve the team and I think we look at 3 tech in the draft or at the trade deadline if we save our cap space. IMO the trade deadline has become a big part of roster building for teams that want to compete for a SB the last few years

I feel much better about our chances than I did a couple of weeks ago
what has Jerry done really that he hasn’t done before? He’s resigning his own guys and traded for a wr. He’s done that plenty of times. He just didn’t get ripped off this time. The Gilmore trade I guess we can say was a shock.

Oh hell, maybe they should just decide not to play this year! I mean since they have no shot, and since you think they are gonna suck anyways.
He’s got a good point though. the run defense and online have not been addressed and that’s where we get killed with the niners.

they are still the better team.

What? He made two great trades and didn’t over pay for his own. He also cut one of his marquee players that most have been calling for him to cut for a long time but he finally did. He convinced another long time staple to take a pay cut. That trade you spoke of wasn’t an overpay like in the past. It was a great deal in what we gave up and the fact that we got the team to eat $6M and then on top of it all the player took a pay cut as well. All of this in the first phase of free agency. It was obvious from day one with all the cap space we cleared that this year was going to be different and it has been,

most of that he’s been doing for a while. Zeke was just the last over priced veteran. The Gilmore trade being the big surprise And not getting ripped off.

If the ceiling is the QB play, what other NFC QBs are you taking over him? That's what I asked.
You can ask anything you want, but I provided an answer.

If you believe the Jones boys have found the magic pill to get Dak over the top, God bless you.

I'll believe Dak plus off season moves = Super Bowl when I see it. We can go back and forth all summer and my perspective would not change.

I'm surprised we haven't went after Deion Jones....but then again...would he be a progress stopper? I wouldn't mind having him for depth....

you are not getting more and you will like it. The tease of going all in has you interested again for another year. Plan is done.

The ceiling, to this point, is real. The perception is believing the 2023 Cowboys will surpass it.

The Niners defense has given Dak fits, and they've added to it. It hasn't mattered who plays QB for them. The Eagles have lost some players, but they've also been to two SBs in Dak's tenure despite massive roster changes between those appearances. Meanwhile, the ceiling (Dak and the Jones boys) remained in place.

As I've said for years, I'll believe the Cowboys are different when I see it. There are no March SBs for me anymore.

According to this they lost quite a few player on defense. Not sure how many are key starters or key depth. But they lost more than they signed.

Not saying Dak will not still have a problem. Just saying SF as well, as Eagles defense can be different and maybe not for the better. As both also lost their DC's.

When was the last time Jerry made an off season trade for a WR with Cooks' credentials (former 1st round draft pick, six 1,000+ yard seasons in 9 years and blazing speed)? Or for a multi ProBowl/All Pro player like Gilmore? Neither of those trades is common on their own, much less both of them.

As for free agents, he hasn't just signed his own guys. He hasn't gone on a spending spree, but he has signed Ronald Jones, replaced the long snapper we lost to free agency, and added some O-Line depth.

And with all these moves he jumped in early. Typically he waits until the flurry of activity early on has passed by and talks with whoever is left over the next few months.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm not praising Jerry or saying he is going to be a different GM going forward than the insufficient one he has been in the past. But this was a different start to the offseason/free agency period than in the past.
