what has Jerry done really that he hasn’t done before? He’s resigning his own guys and traded for a wr. He’s done that plenty of times. He just didn’t get ripped off this time. The Gilmore trade I guess we can say was a shock.
When was the last time Jerry made an off season trade for a WR with Cooks' credentials (former 1st round draft pick, six 1,000+ yard seasons in 9 years and blazing speed)? Or for a multi ProBowl/All Pro player like Gilmore? Neither of those trades is common on their own, much less both of them.
As for free agents, he hasn't just signed his own guys. He hasn't gone on a spending spree, but he has signed Ronald Jones, replaced the long snapper we lost to free agency, and added some O-Line depth.
And with all these moves he jumped in early. Typically he waits until the flurry of activity early on has passed by and talks with whoever is left over the next few months.
Don't get me wrong though. I'm not praising Jerry or saying he is going to be a different GM going forward than the insufficient one he has been in the past. But this was a different start to the offseason/free agency period than in the past.
