Greatest football myth laid to rest...

Thank God for that Tuck Rule, right Brady? :D
Why is he to be thankful for it, anymore than say, defensive holding?

It's the rule. Multiple teams have had it ruled in their favor, including the Cowboys.

The Raider's snow/tuck rule game does nothing to diminish Brady's legacy in any but the most unreasonable people's minds.

I have never seen that rule used during a game of that magnitude, if ever, before that game. It was a fumble, and pulling out an obscure rule that clearly determined the outcome of that game may not diminish Brady's legacy, but it surely diminished the game of football. Even today, people still point to that pivotal moment when talking about the Pats Dynasty. Those Pat teams won a heckuva lot of close games, especially in the playoffs and the SBs.

There is some thruth in this though...

While I couln't necesarily say Romo is better than Brady, just like every Bellchick player he has increased his value significantly.

Brady has a great OL and has had it for a long time.
He's also had a top defense for a while as well, less time to make mistakes.
Having Moss doesn't hurt either.
Welker is a great Possesion reciever.
He has the great Sith for a HC.
One thing he hasn't had is a consistent running game, but when you have Moss and Welker you can manage.
He's had great offensive coordinators.
The AFC East is weak and has been for a while.

I'm not going to say Brady is a system QB, but you can't just plug him into any offense and expect All-Pro results. He HAS to have a top OL, the man is toast without it. My grandma can extend a play better, but the man makes great decisions something Romo has yet to learn.

No player is created in a vacuum, success is a matter of timing, circumstance, and supporting cast and occasional flukes.

Staubach's Hailmary was a fluke

Lyn Swann's acrobatic catch was a fluke.

Dwight Clark's catch was a fluke.

The Bills first Super Bowl loss was one misaimed kick from victory.

Tom Brady's tuck rule saved the 2001 season.

In hindsight, I wished we had signed her instead of keeping Brad Johnson. :(

So? It's the rule. They've had what, 8 years to change it, and haven't thusfar, to my knowledge.

I fail to see how a ref making the correct call diminishes the game.

Yer right, Brady isn't all that good.

Um, how many rings does Romo have?

Everyone knows how I love my stats, but my biggest pet peeve is people hating Tony Romo, actually my biggest pet peeve is people anointing Tom Brady as a great quarterback. He isn't...

Tom Brady isn't all that great, in fact I believe Romo as a player is MUCH better compared to Tom brady during the same time in his career (that might have a lot to do with T.O. though).

Tom Brady's december stats for 2001 and 2002.
QB Rating
2001 - 75.4 (January 62.1)
2002 - 67.5 (No Playoffs)

Tom Brady CERTAINLY wasn't Mr. December.

Tom brady didn't win another super bowl until the Patriots upgraded that offense, by making it multidimensional with Corey Dillon. Which was the first year tom brady had a qb rating above a 90.

It wasn't even until the patriots got Randy Moss did he become a 100+ quarterback. 2007 is so completely beyond anything he had ever done as a quarterback.

Tom Brady is a system quarterback, and that system got injected with Randy Moss, and he exploded to a 50 td season.

Romo has had the luxury of having T.O. his entire career so I don't want to praise him too much, but his production has certainly been better than Tom Brady's for an equivalent period of time.

Fact of the matter is the Patriots won their first championship based of a great defense, and an offense that was good or decent, and didn't turn the ball over often.

Romo hasn't had that defense to help him.
:hammock:

I thought the biggest football myth was that Cory Proctor was an NFL player:laugh2:

Sounds logical, so then what's Tony Romo's excuse? Romo has had solid multi-dimensional talent around him since he became the starter in 2006.

It was a bad time to pull out an obscure rule. I still say it was a fumble.

I stopped reading after the first post, Brady did more with less until Moss arrived and his stats exploded. Shocker.

Give me a system and a system QB and win SB's as a TEAM.....I will take that anytime, all the time.

Just curious Galian Beast, how does Romo's December numbers compare to say Peyton Manning at the same point in his career, or Ben Roethlisberger?
