My Grandmother said it was Joe Louis. He was too old when I saw him to know. Ali is the best boxer I've ever seen no matter the division. I do admit I haven't seen the last few champions. Who's your choice?

really impossible to know

There have been so many great ones starting with John L. Sullivan

dempsey jack Johnson Joe Louis Rocky Marciano ALi

Sad thing is Tyson could have been if he had his head screwed on straight

he was only 19 and champion; and was so feared boxes either dodged him or looked for a way to take a fall

Watching the pure terror on Michael Spinks face when he fought Tyson; I had never seen that before.

I still think Ali is the best. I've seen fights from all of them that I can possibly see and from what I've seen Ali was the best.

i say the "greatest" boxer of all time is Ali, but i think if we had a time machine, and he fought tyson in his prime, he would get destroyed, just my opinion.

I am one to likely agree with this, but again SRR was a beast. Tyson in his prime was the nastiest I have ever seen, at any level. And I grew up watching most of the greats, most of Ali's fights I watched recorded.

Ali in his prime would tear Tyson apart. Ali had power, speed and intelligence. Tyson only had two of those and it wasn't the last one. Ali would out smart and frustrate Tyson then wear him out.

Damn beer. I am forgetting he wasn't a heavyweight. Sorry.

I'm going to do a greatest welterweight and middle weight.

I agree. Although I think Tyson at one time might have gotten lucky and knocked Ali out. I find that unlikely considering some of the other heavy punchers he faced and destroyed. I would have loved to see Louis in his prime fight a similar Ali.

I think people underestimate Tyson's speed and footwork when he was at his best. His combinations were specific, and his uppercut was deadly.

Ali was amazing though.

Really impossible to say until they get in the ring with each other but I'd bet a fair amt of money Ali beats Tyson.

ali, tyson, joe louis.... not sure how anyone can pick just one of those guys.

they were all masterful and unstoppable at times.
louis and tyson were very similar.

ali was a slippery guy who outworked people and out-thought them.

its a shame promoters ruined the sport.
at least we have the ufc now.

Sugar Ray Robinson deserves a mention.

Typical misinformed skin fan. Sugar ray Robinson was not a heavyweight.

Mike Tyson had the title of 1 punch K.O. power.....but most of his knockout's came from combinations

Ali=best and Tyson=most feared IMO. For a few years there, I don't think anyone past or present could have beaten Mike, he was that good.

Ali in large part because while he was a heavyweight he moved like a middle weight yet still had the power. He also was a smart fighter knowing how to change strategy in the middle of a fight. Funny I saw an interview with him once on his out of the ring antics and trash talking that made so many mad at him. He said he got the ideal from the 50’s and 60’s wrestler Gorgeous George. :laugh2:
