People get too enamored with Barry Sanders' average per carry or the number of big runs he had and ignore the fact that he is the all-time leader in negative yardage by a RB and that he never won anything. The guy was a great runner but not a truly elite RB as he was taken out in goalline situations which is the main reason why his average per carry is so much better than Emmitt's.
That is so very true Thumper. I am a big Barry Sanders homer as he is from my hometown. I remember watching him play in high school for crying out loud. But he isn't in the same league as the big three of Brown, Payton and Smith.

This seems to cut both ways. A Sanders fan would say, "He would have as many touchdowns as Smith if he hadn't been taken out in goal line situations." So while it may have marginally improved his average it certainly would have had a dramatic reduction in touchdowns scored. He played ten seasons and was an all-pro all ten. That includes him in the discussion of the greatest of all time.

They can say it but it doesn't make it necessarily true.

There was a good reason to take him out...1st & goal from the 3 would many times turn to become 2nd & goal from the 9.

If Bo Jackson had not been freakishly injured ..... he would have been the best of all time.

In my very non-humble opinion of course.

Thank god that the mindless homer threads have ended. Emmitt and Roger the best of all time?

Gotta love it.

I definitely have to agree with this. Although most of my votes were made simply to cancel out SkinsManiac's votes since the Commanders and anything associated with them are pathetic, I do think it's pretty crazy that Staubach is winning by so much. I think he's top 3, but the greatest of all time is definitely a debate that should've made both these "games" last much, much longer than they will due to bias.

I wish you had told me this - we could have both agreed to abstain and saved ourselves the trouble of canceling each other out. Although that probably wouldn't have given you the same joy.
