K gang, for all intents and purposes... this is a playoff game. And the way Favre will attack us WILL look similar to New England, they are going to throw the football until Favre's arm falls off or he goes off the wagon for painkillers to keep it intact.

I think this game will go a long ways to determining 2 things. Which I will get to..

Note- if we lose, we are not out of it by any stretch of the imagination. Our running game will be hugely important in the cold of winter. Parcells built this team for January-s, but only coached them until November. That's ancient history. We are a now an extremely dangerous team every time we step on the field in any climate, any place, against ANYONE. We have far too many playmakers to ever be discounted. So that's good. However:

1) This game will show if, and this an if- our pass rush is to playoff form, and if our secondary has learned anything from week 1.

A miserable performance like the one recently against Washington and we WILL get gunned down in a shootout.

The jury is still out, but there are signs of life. If we get shredded on Thursday, I still believe with 100% CERTAINTY we defeat Green Bay in Lambeau. We are a BETTER road team, and this team plays great on natural grass where speed is neutralized and the size/speed quotient is more important. We are huge and we are fast on D.

2) The other result. If we derail Green Bay we can derail anyone, including New England. A terrific DEFENSIVE performance on Thursday will show us all that this Cowboys team is not only playoff bound, but a VIABLE threat to the Patriots should they go unbeaten.

The game in Arizona is the goal. I think this game won't tell us we "can't make it", because I think we will.

This game will show us if we can WIN it outright. Now... wouldn't that be something?

Not to nit pick... but the loser of this contest will definately advance and will likely get another shot at the winner this year.

I do agree with the rest of your post, though.

I was thinking earlier today that even if we lose and have to play in Green Bay in the playoffs, we should still be ok. Romo grew up there and played college in that cold environment. We're big and physical and better suited for cold weather football than Green Bay. Finally, we are a very, very good road team and won't be awe-struck at Lambeau Field.

Good points.

one scary stat...

if we win this week Favre is 0-9 in Dallas and i'd hate to play there again in late Jan. to be honest if the road to AZ is thru GB that would probably be a good thing (with GB as the favorites along the way leaving us with a chip on our shoulder). the bad weather would slow their offense more than ours.

18-1 is the goal no matter rain or shine, home or away.

I agree 100%. It's great that the defense has been improving, too. Getting pressure on Favre will be huge because it will limit the formations that GB can run. The secondary needs to get ready for short slants. Favre's quick release can be deadly. These guys will be ready for Thursday.

I wonder how much of an effect it will have on Brett to have played 3 games in 11 days or so. I know he is tough but he is also 37 or so.. body don't heal like it used to.

I think we will beat GB. But the DB's had better learn to play some inside technique and close to the LOS this week or they will get shredded with that quick slant GB loves.

Dallas' defense is the key to winning all the games - the offense is fine.

it really is the simple truth

if we have a healthy henry, newman in there..hamlin and watkins...and reeves...no roy...we will have a chance against farve...on passing downs

I had a concern when the Pack goes to a 5 wide formation. However I was reminded they were playing the Lions (which allowed 50 against the Eagles)...IMO, the key to being successful against that formation will be the pass rush and the aggressiveness of our CB's to bump the WR's off the line. This will disrupt their timing and cause Favre to make mistakes.

This is all well and good, but they run very short routes in that set, so unless our CB's are right up on the WR's, this formation can be very scary for us.

Not to mention the fact that TE Donald Lee has become a huge part of their offense the last 7-8 games.

I agree. I don't think Green Bay is going to blow away the Cowboys. I think it will be a close game, maybe 7 point spread, but I like the cowboys defense which I think got a lot better against the Jets. While the Jets aren't that strong, they still have had some close games.
