Green fires offensive coordinator, gives job to Kruczek

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green fired offensive coordinator Keith Rowen on Tuesday and replaced him with quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek.

The move came hours after the Cardinals blew a 20-point lead and lost to the Chicago Bears 24-23 on Monday night.

"I've known Keith for a long time. I have the utmost respect for him," Green said. "We are not scoring enough points."

Kruczek becomes Green's third offensive coordinator in the coach's 2 1/2 seasons in Arizona.

Green said he was talking with Rowen about what other position he might take on the staff.

Kruczek has been quarterbacks coach since Green arrived.

"I think his close working relationship with Matt Leinart will give us a better chance," Green said.

You know he did the same thing in Minny when he could not get that team to a SB.

Seems like he went through some Offensive and Defensive coaches quite a bit.

Now to be fair Arizona is another ball of wax because they just have not drafted well before he came there and have had many many troubles.

But still this is not something new for Denny when things don't work out well.

Jim Fassel welcome aboard the Arizona Cardinal train.

CARDINALS PLAYERS TALKING FASSEL

A league source tells us that Cardinals players already are discussing the possibility that former Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel might land in Arizona as the replacement for current offensive coordinator Keith Rowen.

Rowen is regarded within the building as being on the hot seat due to some suspect play calling in back-to-back losses to the Chiefs and the Bears. The Cardinals blew leads of at least 14 points in each game.

The offense being used in Arizona by head coach Dennis Green is the same offense he used in Minnesota, which is the same offense that Fassel used in Baltimore. So the transition would be seamless.

Though Green might not be in favor of such a move, it's possible that he'll have no choice. Though Fassel didn't receive an offer to coach the team when Green was hired, Fassel is highly regarded by ownership, due to his prior stint with the team as offensive coordinator. As one league insider explained it to us (and as we'd forgotten), Fassel was instrumental in revitalizing the careers of Boomer Esiason when Esiason played for the Cardinals. Fassel also has drawn praise for his work with Phil Simms, John Elway, and Kerry Collins.

Fassel coached the Giants to a Super Bowl appearance after the 2000 season, where the Giants lost to the Ravens. In order to qualify for the game, Fassel pasted Green's Vikings by the score of 41-0. Green hasn't appeared in a playoff game since that defeat.

Or their D could hold onto a lead.

Can't blame the defence last night, they didn't give up the two fumbles and punt return TDs.

Then again, how is it the OC's fault they fumbled twice for TDs either?

If Rackers makes the FG, this guy would still have a job.

Cards D gave up 3pts last night...forced 6 turnovers and held the other team to under 200 yds of offense

if they fire their D coordinator, we should give him a ring pronto

by the way, their defensive coordinator is Clancy Pendergast...he was on our staff here for a few years befor Parcells came in

so basically they have Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald at WR, and Edge James at RB but can't figure out a way to use them

sounds very very familiar (although we have been scoring more points lately)

Next, Green will be looking in the mirror!

Exactly. Green is just trying to make it look like someone else was responsible for yesterday besides himself.

So I get it, the coordinator called for the fumble in the line play followed by the wide left field goal kick. Man you can see it was the coordinators fault all the way!!!

Wow.... major scapegoat... they scored enough to win last night...

What the heck game were you watching? They obviously didn't...even Charles Barkley knew they needed TDs last night.
