By the end of the 2008 season I think many will be screaming for Felix Jones to be the starter. Not because Barber will suck, but because Felix Jones is that good.

I continue to believe that Barber will be the starter in name but not substance. Felix Jones will do what Julius Jones did, provide the quick hit, take-it-to-the-house performances, and Choice will spell Barber a lot until the game is on the line in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Garrett will keep all of them fresh by not overworking them, IMO.

Yeah, it will have to be a rotation, hopefully the rooks are up to it.

BTW, dcfanatic, got my little problem fixed....all i had to do was click on validate and it worked, oh well.

God I hope not. I dont think our OL spines could handle another year of a RB smashing into them.

MBIII will be fine. He'll have no problem carring the rock 16-20 times.

Says who? He's never been forced to carry the load his entire career going back to college and we saw in the playoffs what happens when he's asked to and starts pulling a 2nd half disappearing act.

Yep, that one game proves that he can't carry the load.

The OL broke down as well.

MB will be fine. There is nothing definitive about his game that can be drawn from that lone start. Let's see how he responds going into the season knowing he will be the starter and expected to carry more of the load. He has earned the right to be the starter in Dallas. IMO he has earned the chance to carry the load as well. If it does not work out then fine. But I would rather see what happens before making any judgments.

Says me!!! I've had this debate before. If you want to judge him off one game then go right ahead. It's your opinon. There were 3 games in the regular season the he had 18+ carries and he did just fine. I've posted them before but I really dont have the time to worry about it right now. As far as the Giant game goes. He got the ball 4 times in the 4th. 4!!! I can not get down on a guy who gets 4 carries in the 4th. He ripped them in 1st half. Giants did a good job at half and adjusted and slowed him down in the 3rd. What do we do in the 4th being down by 4? Pass every down except for 4. Bad coaching!!!

Our o line was doing such a fantastic job in the 2nd half of that game that it's not right to give MB3 all the credit for that disappearing act. Barber had a few starts his rookie year and did quite well the Cards game comes to mind where iirc he had 26 carries

I look at it this way: what teams running backs would you rather have than what we have in Dallas?

Chargers: Yes
Raiders: Heck no.
Chiefs: No.
Broncos: No.
Browns: No.
Steelers: Maybe.
Ravens: No.
Bengals: No.
Bills: No.
Jets: No.
Patriots: Yes.
Dolphins No.
Jaguars Yes.
Colts: Maybe
Texans: No.
Titans: No.

Giants: Yes
Commanders: No
Eagles: No
Bears: No
Vikings: Yes
Packers: No
Lions: No
Niners: No
Rams: No
Seahawks: haha no.
Cards: No.
Saints: No. If duece could stay healthy ya, but he's downside now.
Bucs: No.
Falcons: No.
Panthers: No.

So the way I see it, its kinda dumb for sports shows to argue about the Dallas RB's where there are only 5 teams who I would trade with right now. Two unproven guys just out of college, however, we are talking about the RB spot. RB's are the most likely to contribute as rookies, and Barber is a stud.

This is a non-issue. How many carries MBIII gets per game will be dependent on the team and defense we are playing and the scheme they show up in.

MBIII will be the starter in the base offense. Felix Jones will have certain packages in which he is the starter, again depending on the personel package and the defense. Choice will be a backup who will be active only if he's a starter on Special Teams.

If a defense is afraid of our passing game and sits in the nickel with a 6 man front, MBIII could get 25 carries or more if he's being effective. Another team may load up against the run and clog the lanes...then we may see a 1-back system with Felix getting carries on the draw and sweeps.

I don't think it will be a case of Felix and MBIII spelling each other to stay fresh the way JJ and MBIII did. I really think these two guys will really be all about the package we're running and what's working on the defense.

Let's not forget that Felix and Choice are both rookies. I expect MBIII to get lots of carries in the first 4-6 games while these guys are eased in.

Let's also not forget that we have a very potent passing game, and I don't see Jason Garrett even wanting to pound it the way the coaches wanted to pound it with Emmitt. I think Jason wants to run it just enough to make the defense commit someone to it and then he wants to pass it, not prove they can still grind it out.

Bottom line is, Barber hasnt proven he CAN carry the load. We dont know cause Barber himself doesnt even know cause he's never been put in the position. It's too much of a risk to assume he's gonna get the job done, especially when you got an unproven rookie who hardly ran the tackles at college in Felix Jones.

Why Yes to the Pats and Giants? I will give you the Chargers, Vikes and Jags as a definite yes.

But the Giants and Pats are a solid no. The Colts, I am not sold on Addai being more than a product of that offense. The Steelers, Parker is pretty good and probably underrated, but we don't really know what M-Hall is yet so I agree with your 'maybe'.

The only way we will know if MB can handle a full load is to try. 18-20 carries a game for like 6-8 games in a row will tell the tale. I happen to think with his style that he will get injured. But maybe not. No one knows.
