The agent for Packers RB Ryan Grant says Grant will not sign his minimum tender and will not report to training camp until he signs a long-term contract.

Things are getting pretty ugly up in GreenBay between Farve and now Grant. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks.

Come on Greenbay, where's the love?

The Boys have love flowing out their ...........................................................................................................................................pockets. :)

Does Grant really think he has done enough to warrant a long term deal after playing for only one season?

The opposite argument is look at the deal given to Barber who hasn't started near as many games as Grant.

And yes Grant had a better statistical season than Barber in '07.

Hamlin & cheese only had one season with us. See what that got him, Kaaching.

You don't have to start to know if a player can play or not. You're completely throwing away everything barber has done for us if you're only looking at games he's started.

I agree, Grant hasn't done enough to warrant a longterm big contract. He should shut up and play. He'll get whats coming to him if he's the real deal.

I don't think that is opposite. I believe Barber still has a lot to prove as well. He may not have been on the field for the first play of the game, but he was the primary back in Dallas. Barber has played for three years and showed progress in each season. During those same three years, Grant has been in the league and did nothing his first two years.

There is a good chance that Grant ends up being a one season wonder. There is a chance that Barber doesn't turn out to be a very good back, but he has proven over his three years that he will at least be solid.

There was a reason that the Giants let him go. Grant has upside but let's see what he does when teams have film on him and now that Farve is gone, for now, teams will stack the line to stop the run first!

The number of starts isn't relevant in this comparison.

I assume you mean Grant was better statistically in terms of his gross YPC stat. You must not be factoring reception yards, averages or TDs. Or the fact that RG racked up many of his high YPC numbers running against a 4 man front (109 for 627, 5.8 ypc) and/or in 3+ WR sets. Ryan Grant also had fewer touchdowns than Barber overall, and carried the ball a fraction as often in crunch time (4th qtr, +/-7 points/last 2 min of either half). RG (10/8) to MB's (28/25).

Tell that to his agent in contract negotiations. I'm just pointing out the opposite argument that will be made.

I'm referring to Grant being more productive in terms of YPC, yes (with about an equal # of carries).

As far as # of receivers go ...

2 WR
Grant - 4.7
Barber - 4.4

3 WR
Grant - 5.9
Barber - 4.6

4 WR
Grant - 8.4
Barber - 5.0

He was a big part of their 13-3 season... not so much in the beginning... but he made the team more complete on offense.

If it was you or me and we played like he did... WE would ask for a long term deal too.

kinda what i thought. no appreciation for where you are - MORE! i'd want a long term deal too, but you've got to be realistic about where you are.

Can't blame him for trying the way some idiots like Al Davis are shelling out money.

What has Ryan Grant done to deserve a "long-term deal"? I never heard of him until last year...

I could see him wanting more money, but he might be better off agreeing to a higher salary for the current term of his deal. It seems like salaries are inflating as time goes on. I could see him asking for a reasonable sum for the life of his current deal. This wouldn't cripple the Packers and would reward his play from last year. If I were Green Bay, I would throw some incentives his way as well.

Tough crowd here. It's not unreasonable for someone playing the most physical position in a physical game with a one year contract to want an extension.

he will be signed by training camp. He has no leverage. There are a couple of kids chomping at the bit to take his spot so he won;t linger long. Besides, they need somebody to protect FAvre when the Olinemen allow the defensive linemen to have a free pass to the QB.

Images of the first movie "The Longest Yard" keep going thru my mind.
