Greg Cosell breaks down the top LBers in the draft

Its like pulling teeth. You said that there are things about Parsons you dont like. I am interested to know what those are.

I'm not a tape expert, I just have a few hesitations about Parsons. I love his instinctiveness, athletic upside, and aggressiveness.

I have questions about his coverage ability. I have questions about some plays I've seen where he goes the wrong way, but his athleticism bails him out. In the NFL, that won't be able to happen. There were some questions about his maturity several months ago, but I haven't heard anything about that since then.

I never said Parsons was a bad prospect. I'd be ok if he was the pick. I'm just more confident in Surtain and Slater.

Biggest problem I have with him is he is just not very experienced and he opted out. There is no way he will be able to go in and be our MIKE Linebacker. ALL the physical tools, he's a monster but his overall LB'er knowledge is not there yet. If they draft him to play outside and not try to throw him right into the MIKE, I'd be all for getting him. He's not ready to call plays on the field by all accounts. He's not Sean Lee smart yet. He might be able to do it eventually but not sure how long it will take.

The more I read about some of these players that will most likely fall in between our 1st and 2nd picks, the more I want to trade back and get 2 of them.
I think JOK and Davis would both be great fits here.

IMHO, Parsons is an OLB rush LB. He can rush the QB, he can get through the trash hit and tackle. But he has very limited cover skills. A 3/4 team will love him. I see Denver wanting to pair and replace Von Miller.

Top 5 talent in the class at a position of need...and we’ll likely pass on him bc we’re the Cowboys. I think he’s the best defensive prospect in the class.

I really wish ESPN would put Greg Cosell on MNF teamed with Chris Berman. Berman loves his Dad and I can see Berman being so happy doing immitations

I have heard some other posters mention his coverage ability. Is it because he didnt do much of it at Penn state or are there reviews saying he isnt good at it? At 6-3 and running a 3.39 40 yard time, he has the length, athleticism and speed to keep up with RB'z, TE,s and WR's if need be.

I agree that the 1 year is his biggest issue. Dont like anyone that opts out. As far as taking a year to learn his craft properly I dont really have an issue there if there is one.

I really like a lot of these guys like Davis and Collins.LB is definitely a need and this is where a trade down from 10 will be a god send to this defense,

I have been back and forth on this myself I can't lie because I think back to when we had McClain big self patrolling the MLB spot for as brief as it was we were very formidable with him and Sean Lee at LB. I think either of these two gives us a very strong chess piece to go after people's run game going forward. I just wonder would it put us chasing a CB or S after though. I like the kid from Missouri Bolton later on but he's a bit short. I also like Browning up at OSU I just want our defense to be strong up the middle from now on.

Like what?

He and jaylon are complete opposites coming out of college FYI
Hahah thank you! I think people are more worried about us taking another linebacker early but parsons gives them something we’ve needed. He’s fantastic against the run and can also rush the passer.

Parsons is exactly what we need in the middle of our defense. And it gets Jaylon OUTTA HERE!!!! Bonus!!

How good is Parsons? Is he Patrick Willis good? Is he Sean Lee good? Is he Ray Lewis good? Who does he compare to?

I don’t see Patrick Willis good, I see Parsons as carrying too much weight to be that agile. He’s better then Sean Lee going to the ball, like a heat seeking missel, but better getting to the QB not so much diagnosing run plays. No not Ray Lewis, not sure he can hold that kind of ground standing up blockers or hitting that hard. I see him as similar to Justin Houston, probably best as a 34OLB, but he could play ILB too.
