I'm interested to see what Greg thinks of Phillips.

Greg is gushing over Wade Phillips. He really likes the hire.

I think Ellis knows that a) Jerry wants him on the team -- even if it means him missing the first 6 on PuP. b) He'll get sacks in Wade's D. c) If he gets sacks then when he does leave Dallas, he'll be in line for a decent deal somewhere else.

Ellis just did a comparison of the Dallas 3-4 to a Wade Phillips 3-4. He said the Dallas 3-4 was read and react. He used Spears as an example. He said Spears was supposed to read the tackle and occupy him. He said they line up in the same spot and stayed there. He said the Wade Phillips 3-4 isn't reactionary, but the defensive players have a predetermined spot to go.

Pretty much said guys like Spears had no chance of getting any kind of pressure on the Quarterback because of the scheme in our 3-4.

Which is pretty much with some of us were saying during the year. In a read and react type scheme, the DE have an extremely hard time in the transition from run D to pass D, virtually impossible to be successful on a consistant basis. I alway thought it was unfair to label Spears a bust because he didn't rush the passer very well.. he wasn't put into a spot that would allow him to be successful in that regard.

Reading and reacting didn't seem to keep Randy White from being a good pass rusher. :)
