Other teams coaches still refer to Ellis as an all-pro player. He's been playing in coverage a lot this year and is the second-best pass rusher on the team. He must be doing something right.

Spencer coming back and playing well in spots gives us four legitimate pass rushers, and if that happens, this defense could go from good to great very quickly.

Now maybe some people can sympathize with Ells and his complaining earlier in the year about how he was used in coverage too much and not allowed to rush the QB enough.

He gets his opportunities cut down drastically to get sacks and now fans complain about his lack of sacks and how he sucks because he doesn't compare to Ware's numbers.

Ellis is still a good player. He is doing fine considering what the coaches are asking him to do.

I think he needs to be mainly on pass rushing, nickel situations, cause he's not going to be as effective as an everydown player anymore.

Spencer getting healthy, staying healthy, and being back would be a great addition for this defense.

Yep.

What's your rationale that Ellis is not an every down player anymore?

I still think Ellis is a solid player and will be a force in the pass rush department. Ellis did well last season when he was getting relieved by Spencer from time to time. Wade made it a point to say that they wanted to ensure that Ellis was fresh late in games and late in the season.

The injury to Spencer meant Ellis had to play more snaps and although he is still a good player, he is over 30 yrs. old and been in the league double digit years. It takes a toll on vets. With Spencer back I think Ellis will be able to get needed breathers and be able to get back to being the force he was last season.

Ellis does need to step up and Spencer needs to show why Dallas traded back into the 1st round for him. This defense needs both to supply steady pressure to take some heat off of Ware.

Ellis is to many here as TO is to the media.

Loved to be hated and it takes pretty much nothing to get the hate out.

Ellis, while getting a bit long in the tooth, is still solid.

on the otherside of demarcus ware.....we need spencer fully healthy and ready to play. He can be the difference maker we need on D.
Greg ellis only has 19 tkls and 3sacks through 8 games and playing almost all the games...Its Pathetic almost like brad johnson stats:banghead:
for comparison demarcus ware has 44tcks and 9sacks in the same time span.

hell our starting d-line got more tackles then ellis. Anthony Spencer got 6tackles in the limited time he has played.
Ellis needs to stop crying and start playing back to his probowl status.

Ellis is half a sack shy of being on his career average pace of sacks per game. Last year was a career year, so it's not a shock that he's gone back to being the same pass rusher he's always been.

I think age is just catching up with Ellis. He was never the most explosive rusher, but at least last season he seemed to have alot more burst coming off the edge.

Also, as you pointed out, statistically he's having a pretty bad year. On pace for 6 sacks does not cut it for your OLB in the 3-4. Especially considering teams are focusing a lot of resources on Ware, and Ellis is essentially one on one most of the plays.

Look at the last play of the TB game. TB had a TE chip Ware, the Tackle take him, and still slid a back to his side.

Fifth in the leage in sacks is misleading b/c more than half the time we have very little pressure on the QB.

??????

That makes no sense.

We cannot afford to do that. It might hurt his feelings.
Makes you wish Jerry would walk up to Ellis and say, "Greg, we've traded you to Detroit" and then after 30 seconds, say "I'm just kidding .. for now .." :D

Let's add a few seconds more, with Jones continuing to smile that famous Cheshire Cat grin of his, stop suddenly and give Ellis a dead serious stare. That would be awesome. :)
