--- OLB key ingredient in Defense, and it's hard to to not be a part

-- Pain too high to perform

-- He's not able to take on block, but can run straight ahead

--Would have retired without conversation with Woodson

--Couldn't part with the 1.8 mil

--He and Jerry are fine

--He's not walking away right now; loves the game;still fighting to get back out there

-- Wade told him he wants him out there (no/kidding)

--Still unsure if he'll play this year

For the most part, it is a 12 month injury, if you come back at all. Too bad he doesn't have another 2 months to get right, but that's the breaks. My bet is on the Boys IRing him. :(

I say let him rest it up for another 2-3 months... we could use him in 2nd half of season as a situational pass rusher.... he still has some "stuff" left in the basement :D

As much as he's ticked me off these past couple of years, when you hear him talk or see him speak on the news or what not, the guy is really hard to hate. Very likable person.

Ellis is killing me. Parcells recognized that he would be an asset in the 3-4 defense as an outside linebacker and that it would even extend his career, but he resisted the move big time. Fast forward to the present AFTER his injury and Ellis now understands how important OLB is in the 3-4 and he can't get back into the mix fast enough.

me-->:banghead:<--Ellis a.k.a. brick wall

Well I guess if he misses time he is officially the Jim Jeffcoat of this team's pass rush rotation.

Now if only Spencer can be a Tony Tolbert while Ware plays the part of Haley then everything will be golden.

Yeah and Romo=Aikman, Emmitt=jj/mb3, and Irvin=TO, then everything is Golden times 2. :)

I never banked on him being in the lineup, that's a VERY serious injury folks... That's why I saw fit to draft either Jarvis Moss or Anthony Spencer to replace him.

Maybe Moss will prove me wrong eventually, but I see Spencer as the better choice of the two. He's strong at the point-of-attack against the run; and if he can tweak the angles he rushes the quarterback sooner rather than later, he's going to be a beast opposite Ware for years to come.

I sure hope so!

I thought Spencer was the better choice for us, he's built more like a strong side linebacker, but can still rush the passer, but I thought Moss would be the better pass rusher

I have a feeling Ellis' conversation with Woody went something like this.

"I'm gonna retire, man."

"Don't do that. Just stick around, get paid for rehabbing your leg, and wait to get cut. You're not going to get this money anywhere else."

"I was thinking about ESP..."

"Before you even say it, no - we don't want you."

Cowboys can put Ellis on IR any time they want but what do they gain? Yes, they save a roster spot but whoever they use it on won't help this team anywhere near as much as Ellis. If he indeed in too much pain at this point to play, just let him continue to rehab & hope in late September/October he can return & help this team out down the stretch -- we may need him even more then.

With so many doubts, what is the holdup as to Wade pulling the plug?
I can see humoring Ellis because he's a proud veteran but the season beckons.
It's clear that he's not 100 percent. So what is the upside of even playing him?
As soon as Spencer is named the starter, Ellis will quit.
The sooner the better. The team is waaay more important than the coddling of one gimpy veteran.

They can put him on PUP list. I can't quite remember how it works. But the 1st 6 weeks, or games of the season he is out. Then they have 2 weeks in which he can practice with the team. For them to decide to activate him or put him on IR, or just release him..

And with the bye week coming up around that time. He can be back for the 11/ 4 game the Iggles.
