ok guys.

I'm new here, but not new to being a Cowboy fan. First understanding of any sort of football was "The Ice Bowl". So I'm old, screw me.

BUT, I've been watching Greg Ellis, very isolated, live and on TiVO. The dude is on every Friggin play on his side, and other side sometimes, folks!

I think The Great Tuna (which I hated initially), may be on to something. The guy is fast, "Knows How to Tackle", and is a player.

Comments, because I have a BUNCH more

Greg, hang in there bro, as Parcells will make you a member of Canton. Watch....

I would agree. I think he might have his moments where he WILL struggle, but I think he will make many more good plays than bad. The run defense should be stout on his side, and it seems like he can sniff out the dump-off passes (hopefully he will catch the next one he gets a chance at).

The moments i have seen him really struggle is in coverage. Most of the time not terrible, but receivers can and will get a step on him.

I am waiting to see Zimmer turn him loose a little bit. The blitz packages (sceems) should be interesting.

Yeah, just wait until Zimmer starts putting in some blitz scenarios for him. Should be pretty stout rush coming from his side of the ball. We were in Shreveport for the last game and he seemed very upbeat. Signed my roommate's and my hat with no hesitation. We wished him a great season at LB and he just simply smiled at us.

Yup, I think he is getting on board, and will be a major FORCE.

I'm liking Tuna more and more this year, thanks to Jerry letting go a little, but having the intelligent insight. Most great leaders let their people do their job, when they have confidence in them

He seems to have adjusted well, but I doubt he becomes a member of anything in Canton unless it is the volunteer Fire Company

i'm to the point where the less i hear about him questioning the transition - the more i like him. until recently he's had the track record of a "team player". he's been reliable - not spectacular. it's the preseason and it looks like the "experiment" may pan out. but i'll withhold judgement 'til the games count.

i appreciate his effort on the field so far. that's all i can say.

greg needs to trust his head coach and play his tail off. that's his best shot at a raise and further commitment from this team or another. commitment is a 2-way street. JMO

To say that he's going to make it to Canton may be taking it a bit far. Just because he's disagreeing about the Canton part doesn't mean he's an Eagles fan..

Ellis is doing real well (like he always has) but what people forget is that he is going to help the running game too. He is squashing the tight ends and RB's coming at him and can hold his own against lineman...plus he still knows how to rush...

I was not happy about tinkering with him originally but BP looks like he has made the right move...

i was/am with you too. seems to be working so far. I think since Tuna is in more decision control on players...

I've heard all the reasons why none of us should be surprised that Ellis is making a good transition, but I'm still surprised and impressed.

The thing I didn't like in the New Orleans game was Ellis dropping the sure interception. This defense is one that should generate game changing turnovers and that's the kind of big play that is important for Ellis to make.

Yeah, maybe I'm being too nitpicky. It's only one play. He'll get more chances for interceptions. I just hope that he's able to convert them.

Yeah, I am surprised, but it's much easier to sit back and think, "I knew it would all along."

Agreed. Our D has been dominant, but in PRE season. I think once Zimmer and BP let go of the reigns, its going to be even better.

Ellis has been pretty good in coverage. He got outside and shut down McCalister on a dump off. Almost had that pick.

Put a LB against a WR and you will most likely have matchup issues. Most guys are going to have trouble with a smaller, faster, and most importantly, quicker player. Considering the fact that Ellis is 6'6" 270lbs. and he can move like he does, and is adequate in coverage is a huge plus.

He will be used in a Willie McGinnest role. I mean, he's not covering slot WR in nickel, he's a downlineman, rushing the passer. And he's shown to be good enough in pass coverage to play more than just as a pass rusher, especially when you factor in his pass rushing skills from the OLB, and most importantly his abilty to contain the run.

With backs like Portis, Westbrook, and Tiki Barber, I am quite happy we have 2 guys who can outside contain well.
