Assuming the worst, if he did get popped again... what's his rookie contract? How does it work when suspended, and what do we save if he's cut?

i dont think he gets paid or has salary cap impact if he is suspended.
someone reported that he does not even accrue service time while suspended.
no need to cut him.
just keep him away from the other players because he may be bad influence.
nfl could 1 day change its policy so no need to throw out the 1% chance (or less) that we can collect some benefit.

I don't think there is any real need to keep him from the other players. The only guys who get tested during the year are guys already in the program. They can smoke every day during the season as long as they tested clean during the 'random' test in preseason. If anything his presence might remind some of the guys that they need to take the offseason test seriously so they don't get in the program.

I responded to this thread, as I will not waste part of my life reading the 300 plus posts in the mega thread.

imho, keeping bad influence from younger players and setting a necessary example are the only reasons for cutting him.
they weigh against we got your back

I'm thinking that if you see a guy working every day and he's the only one not getting paid, and it's because he failed a drug test, that's a pretty good example.

And frankly, he's going to have to go and find a job at some point because he's going years without making any NFL money. So he might end up going away on his own.

It's possible that the other players are a bad influence on him more than the other way around, since they can all smoke and he can't. You have to assume that even if he did fail this test, he's trying to avoid smoking. Otherwise he would have failed multiple tests right away.

Randy Gregory signed a 4 year, $3,814,936 contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including a $1,034,499 signing bonus, $1,404,499 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $953,734. In 2016, Gregory will earn a base salary of $107,365. Gregory has a cap hit of $365,989 while his dead money value is $1,145,872.

There has been nothing about this on ESPN football shows today.
Nothing.....so is this true or BS....
Nothing on NFL Insiders, nothing so far on NFL Live.....
Just saw it on. NFL network

Here's hoping this experience encourages a newfound reluctance to ignore these red flags in the future.

Spagnola pretty much said it was true today on Talkin' Cowboys. He is such a homer that if he actually says that a negative thing about the Cowboys is true, it probably is true.

If Randy has to walk away from the game today and it looks likely, what would his total money paid to him by the Cowboys be???

I think it's just his signing bonus (right around 1 million) and any money he earned last year before suspensions. Hopefully someone else will chime in as to whether or not roster bonuses are applicable when a guy is suspended. I'd suspect they're not.
