Watched it last night on Netflix. I had forgotten who good it is. I like most submarine movies, and that one is well done.

Read Hos' post, did a quick check to see what I was missing, and thought the same thing you did. I like well done submarine movies, and I've got NetFlix, so I'll watch it tonight.

Book is much better BP, if you have the time to spend reading it. If not, movie is certainly worth spending a few hours on. The book is Event 1000 by David Lavallee. The book is a bit of a slow read but it has so much excellent detail in it regarding the subject matter that I found it to be, not only entertaining but also educational.

I'm screwy that way. :laugh2:

You will love it. We have similar tastes in war movies. While this isn't, it is still military.

Already added the flick to my NF Instant Queue, for later. I'll have to rummage through the cupboards for some mw popcorn. If I can't find any, probably go with tacos... submariners' meal of choice, I'm told.

Das Boot is a tremendous movie... a Classic, for sure. Long, but top-notch acting and "made you feel like you were there" atmosphere they pulled off, IMO. Das Boot came up before — in one or another CZ movie thread — and I think Hos said he hadn't seen it before, at that time. Seen it yet, Hos?

Gonna need a couple bowls of popcorn for that one, if you still haven't yet.

How does it compare to Ice Station Zebra? one of my all-time favorite. I love movies involving subs. Two of my recent fav's are The Hunt for Red October and Crimson Tide (best one IMO).

Yeah, they did a good job with the 5.1 sound... lots of creaks and groans from the ships hull that you can feel surrounding you (if you have that set up). Makes you feel like you are in the boat. I think they made a mini series by combining the movie with unused footage, but I never saw it... just the movie.
