As the worst QB of all time to go to a Super Bowl

And it should reassure us that Romo can get us there as well - now if we only had a Lovie Smith

I think Dilfer was worser.

How the heck do we dial up a defense like that?

For starters, I would move Carp inside, get one more edge rusher, and use B. James in more obvious running downs (like the way Philly uses Trotter).

Then, we need a FS or CB.

Plus, we need better production out of our DEs.

Let's see, what else have I forgotten?

It's very close.

Just goes to show you what a Defense can do for you...Something Romo didn't have.

The first step to getting a defense like that is switching back to the 4-3.

Because we all know we're not going to have a real 3-4 defensive coordinator anytime soon.

Unfortunately, I don't see us switching back to the 4-3 anytime soon.

Grossman is in only his 3rd year.... And don't forget Neil O donnell. Theismann,.

At least grossman is not afraid to throw deep... he will get better...

I agree totally.

I would agree, except I sit Bradie James down, and only bring him in to give someone a rest.

But if we could somehow get a great pass rusher opposite Ware, and move Henry to FS/draft a CB, then it's on.

Me either. Thing is, the personnel isn't that different that it would totally rule it out. Put Spears and Ferguson in the middle, have Ellis and Canty on the outside with Ware rotating between OLB and DE.

My mouth waters just thinking about it. The grass is certainly always greener, but I gotta tell you... if the grass I'm standing on now is going to stay this milquetoast, vanilla puke color, I'm going to want to hop that damn fence.

Actually, I would never let Ware go back to OLB if we were to move to a 4-3.

I want him getting after the QB on every play, and on the other side, until we find a great pass rush, I would put Hatcher there. Remember he was just a rookie and played great, let's see what he will be like after an offseason of heavy work outs.

It's not like there's a real 4-3 defensive coordinator in our foreseeable future.

They run the same defense as Tampa Bay and we didnt have much trouble with it.Nothing magic in what they do. We ran that defense for a while too but didnt have the pass rushers the Bears have.

I'm convinced that there are some QB's, for whatever reason, people will always claim to be great no matter how bad they are and some QB's people will claim they are bad no matter how good they are. Grossman falls under the former. He's was awful today outside of one drive and was missing open WR's all over the place. And if you have a defense that takes away the deep ball to Berrian, he's about as lousy as they get. In the end, he's better than Dilfer was in 2000, or probably ever, but he's easily the 2nd worst QB to ever win a Super Bowl if the Bears win it. At best, he's a guy that relies on a good defense and making rather simplistic reads on the deep ball to be successful. If Payton would not have abandoned the run so quickly and the Saints would not have fumbled the ball, the Bears simply didn't want the ball in Grossman's hands. To say he played well today is like saying that Romo was tremendous against the Seahawks.
