Group Chat: Dak's Recovery and QB 2 battle

Dak is like a jack in the box, turn the handle enough and something will pop. He's now like the often injured Romo at the end of his career.

He says, what Dak said, if he had to play a game, he could.
I call BS. In another article it said, Dak says that, but most likely he could not.
I even seen another article, claiming he had a slight set back, and the tear is still not completely healed being attached to the bone. I need to try to find that one.

Walker is implying there may be a battle for QB 2, between Grier and Milton. I say it is not close. Grier was not as good as Rush, who many on here over rated. And he certainly was not beat the Trey Lance.
They need to bring in another QB for more competition.

But here it is for further discussion.
I have to agree with you, and a solid thread topic, Big man. I've heard Dak was still hurt too, and if you think about a hamstring (muscle) coming off the bone, a lot could go wrong in the healing process for a regular person let alone a football player.

I think this is why the FO was working diligently to get a decent QB2 in the building. I do not believe Will Grier has a chance to beat Milton. I believe Grier will be in a battle with another QB for QB3. I look for a late 7th round pick or a UDFA to be signed as competition.

So he had surgery to reattach the ligament but it’s not reattached?

Grier had effectively beaten Rush in their initial camp competition before getting injured prior to the last preseason game. They may have held onto Rush because they trust him but Grier had outplayed him in their only camp he was actually given a 50/50 shot!

They game planned that for Grier to try to get a trade for him.
He was not all that great otherwise.
Dak playcalled that lone and last preseason game in 2023 vs the Rauders where Will Grier went 29 of 35 for 305 passing yards and 2 passing TDs, a 122 passer rating, rushed 10 times for 53 yards and 2 rushing TDs.

Since Dak playcalled that game, seriously doubt the Cowboys game planned that for Grier to try to get a trade for him, especially since every other team would just have to wait for Grier to be cut and available via free agency and week later.

BTW, Grier > Rush

Because it's true. He needed all the reps he could get. You think he had played enough?
He’s been in the league four seasons and has 5 NFL starts. He played almost the entire preseason last summer. He’s had enough reps to look better than he has. If his struggles have been entirely due to him not getting enough reps he wouldn’t be on his third NFL team.

I do agree with that. But the narrative on him even before the draft was he needed reps.

The excuse with him continues to be he needs reps despite four years in the league and 5 career starts. He was given an opportunity in SF as the starter. He got injured and couldn’t even win the backup job. The Cowboys gave him every opportunity to beat out Cooper Rush and he couldn’t do it. No QB is going to get meaningful reps if they’re not playing well. Players earn jobs in camp and preseason. That’s how football works. If he doesn’t win the backup job with the Chargers he’ll be looking for another team next year, assuming he even makes the Chargers 53 this season.

They game planned it, Dak only called the plays.
It was scripted as well.
Don’t make it out like it was some great performances on both of them.

Milton vs Grier... is that really a battle? I thought the far-gone conclusion was the QB2 job is Milton's.

I'm not making up anything, because it happened. Grier made it happen. What is so hard about giving him credit for that game's performance?

I can give him credit, but I won’t make it how he is some great QB because of it. And it does not make Dak a better QB either. It just shows he knows the offense. If in fact he was 100% calling the plays without any other input.
