So I sort of adopted a stray dog with the expectation of locating his owner in short time. Well, it hasn't worked out that way. He has a chip that traced the owners back to a shelter in Plano but that shelter has been unable to locate them. It's been three weeks now.

He's about 2 years old judging by his excellent teeth. He's been house trained, isn't destructive, and has been trained to sit and lay down. His name, according to the shelter, is 'Bob'. But he doesn't respond at all to it. This tells me these owners didn't have him long. Possibly decided that the cute little puppy wasn't so cute anymore once he natured into a 75lb ish adult dog.

Anyway, clearly he's got a lot of Golden Retriever in him, but he isn't full blooded. Possibly Lab mix? Bloodhound? This isn't the greatest pic as his hind legs appear to be collapsing in this pic...he was still apprehensive at this point. But he's adapted well around the house but my Pit mix who's a great deal smaller yet insists on reinforcing his alpha status so I have to separate them when I'm away.

So any guesses on him?

My first guess is he looks like a lab mix of some sort. Lab mixed with maybe Golden retriever?

Yeah, definitely possible. However, when he barks it's really a Bloodhound-like howl.

Oh, and he has NO retrieving instinct. I throw him a stick and if he's even interested, he'll pick it up and run at top speed round the yard, daring me to catch him. Not exactly what you'd expect in a Retriever!

That hasn't crossed my mind. As I mentioned above this picture is a little deceptive. He's very tall.

I'm thinking now maybe Golden Retriever/ (some type of) Shepherd.

that is a beautiful dog bro.

I cant believe how people have dogs for a year or two and then give them away.

It looks like a GR for sure with some lab to me.

I did an artist's compile based on the texture of your dog as well as various markings and I came up with this as the Sire...

Thank you. Thank you. Finally--the puzzle is solved. So that's why he's been hoisting furniture on his back and walking around the house. Hmm And never seems to drink his water either.
