That's awesome. How did you find Emmitt to be in person?
I thought he handled himself quite well. He and Don Sutton were the "HOF" headliners for the evening so they both have gave speeches. Emmitt and Pensacola have always had a bit of a tenuous relationship. Many of the locals feel as thought he forgot about his roots when he made it big and established roots in Dallas. However, many are unaware that he privately took care of his old high school every year. His thing is, "I do what I do and at the end of the day if I can lay my head down with the understanding that I have given back to the best of my ability I can sleep with a clear conscience". There's still a bit of a tenuous environment when it comes to Emmitt but just attending that event and being open to everything was a great step in the right direction for him. I have always felt that you should never forget where you came from because it played a key role in making you who you are today. I think Emmitt understands that more and more as time passes by.
To more clearly answer your question, I only got to spend a brief moment with him so I cannot attest to my personal thoughts of him as a person. I was pretty geeked up though and really enjoyed the brief moment with someone that helped cement some great Cowboys memories in our minds forever.
