The RockBand guitar controller is much better than the GUIII controller. I have played RockBand and that game will be my next purchase. I wanted to get this for my son so that he could get his feet wet w/ the controller before spending the 159.00 for RockBand.
The cool thing about Rockband is all of the different instruments plus the vocals. We play it here in town at a local bar I go to. Everyone loves it.
I think you will really enjoy that purchase Duane. I play the drums. Very hard to play when you aren't used to playing w/ your feet and hands. It can be tough in the beginning.
Also - the GHIII controller works w/ Rockband but the Rockband controller doesn't work on GHIII.
Did you get this for the 360/ or PS3?

But I am addicted to Rock Band. The drums were the clincher for me. I'm about 85% through the expert career on drums.

I play the drums in real life pretty good but me and the RockBand drums do not mix. I try and play the song the way you would really play it and I just fail. Maybe it's a calibration issue that I can fix in the options though.
Has anyone hacked the game so that you can use your real electric drums in it yet? I would love to use my Roland set.

Not sure if that's useful, but it looks interesting.
