Gulf Coast Storms

I'm borderline on the edge of both the projected cones of these Gulf of Mexico tropical cyclones. I'm holding my breath.

I've lived within 75 miles or closer to the Texas Gulf Coast for 90% of my life. The last 15 years have been tough with Rita, Ike, and Harvey. Being an RN I was isolated from my family in Beaumont, Texas at my hospital for all 3 storms. Rita tore the hell outta the area. I had minimal house damage but lost $100K in uninsured timber, Ike not so bad here but wiped out 99% of the dwellings on the Texas Bolivar Peninsula, and then Ike dropped around 5-6 feet of rain in 4 days around Beaumont.

Y'all keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Include those Saint fans east of the Sabine River too. We're potentially gonna have a rough week and maybe more.

Our friends lost their beach home on Bolivar, Crystal Beach, to Ike when it went under water and they still don't know how many were lost. They were in the last vehicle out when they closed the bridge toward Beaumont.

So the daughter decides to stay in the area because she works at UTMB and buys a house in Dickinson. Harvey gets her rescued by boat from her home there. She was texting me pics of the rising water until her cell ran out and it was scary. She narrowed it down to two houses in Dickinson and the tie breaker was the elevation of the home she bought. The other had 3 feet of water in it.

Doesn't look like Marco is going hang around like Harvey did, talk about a storm with a mind bent on destruction. Laura is larger and more powerful and they're saying they could hit as close as 12 hours apart in Louisiana.

I went a month between mowings. Just had a brief, but drenching storm roll through here at work. Hopefully it rolled over my neighborhood.

I erred in saying Ike dropped all the rain ... it was Harvey in 2017.

I would but it looks like Laura will bend to the east and Marco will peter out over the Texas Hill Country. FTR it is powder dry here too in northern SE Texas. It was like that prior to Rita which contributed to so many trees uprooted. I had 200 year old white oaks laid over each other like Pick-up Sticks. (Only you old guys will get the Pick-up Sticks reference).

The first storm is suppose to head west toward Louisiana and Texas. Then the next storm is suppose to hit the Texas- Louisiana coastline. I'm in Southeast Texas. I'll be the idiot outside with boxing gloves on fighting the storm surge. --JK.




Everyone of us in these storms path need to play it safe. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare.

Tropical Storm Marco went off without much damage but Hurricane Laura is building and could get to Cat 3.

Marco was a dud !

Laura (can we just call her Karen?) is ramping up. I've read up to a Cat IV but definitely a Cat III. I'm pretty puckered up here. Got a couple of trees I wish I had cut down last spring.

Right now the storm is forecast as a direct hit where I live in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area. I have always evacuated for these storms but I am going to ride this one out as long as it is a Cat 3 or less. My wife and daughter are heading west and already have a room booked. For me it is too much of a PITA to try to get back into the area the day after to check out damage. Also, my father-in-law is refusing to leave so I am trying to convince him to stay here at my house where I will have the windows boarded up. I am sure I will be living by generator for a few days (maybe a week or more).

Same here. Waste Water will just call me back in to work a day later anyway. So no point in leaving. I just have to put plastic up in the house, so my window unit can just cool the living room. Since that's were I'll be staying for the next couple of days. Wonder how many BPD officers are staying behind to try an enforce this mandatory evacuation order? Because I see a lot of cars on the road right now in Beaumont. Seems as if half the city is staying put.

As of now, we're riding it out. Zones A and B can voluntarily evacuate. I'm in Zone C. If Zone C changes to voluntary evacuation, then we're out.

It isn’t a huge storm, so many will ride it out. I would as well if I were back in the NASA area. We have rode out much worse.......

No, not at all. We can leave if I want to. Voluntary evacuation orders have been issued by Zone. Zone A is Coastal`. Zone B is just past Coastal. Zone C is on the edge of Houston Metro area and the areas closer to the coast.
