Okay, it's only a 10 percenter at this point, but that's more promise for rain than we've had in awhile.

I'm really beginning to wonder if you asked a kindergarten child in Texas to draw what grass looks like in the summer, if they'd include any green in it at all. Kids in the 50's during that drought would color grass brown in their pictures because they'd grown up with everything being dead and withered by the time June rolled around.

We're getting close to that point.

i havent been down to austin in a while, but i hear its REALLY bad down there. i live in fort worth and we just got new rules about only being able to water twice a week. With it being september and that being one of the wettest months of the year, i dont think that will be a problem up here, but down there if you guys dont get any rain it might be a while b4 you see green grass again

It's drought city. I drove through my first mild dust storm the other night. The weather has been hot like most places, but we're just getting hot days and no rain with not much relief in site.

Monday was just brutal here in San Antonio. Walking across the parking lot to work felt like walking in an oven set on warm. I kid you not. The breeze was unbearable. My truck said 111, so no telling how hot it felt with the heat radiating off of the asphalt.

Good maybe Dallas will get some rain.

It's funny. Up here in NY, we are breaking rain records and Texas is breaking drought records.

Some local TV Wx dude said last night that the L pressure forming in the Gulf could actually hamper our chances in Tx of getting good rain, explaining that it might effective suck the southerly moisture back from flowing northward into the state.

I will hunt down the L pressure system and teach it a lesson it won't soon forget if it happens.

On your way to bringing Dallas some rain, do me a favor and bring the Florida panhandle some waves. K? Thanks.

A few days ago it was 111 degrees here. No kidding.

This thing should be TS Lee by the morning.

Models have no real idea what's going to happen with it, other than screw up a lot of folk's Labor Day plans on the coast. GOM oil rigs are already being evacuated.

There is a TON of heat laying at the surface of the GOM right now, and Lee could build up in a hurry. Dad was a little over 110 nm out two weeks ago on a bill fish trip and said jumping in was like a jacuzzi.

Yes... Lee is exactly what we've needed... A TS that forms in the gulf. Odds of helping us in Texas are too low when the storms start way out in the Atlantic.

Not that this is statistically valid, but I've been thinking some kind of tropical storm remnants might give us some rain in Texas in September. Where I am, we're only at barely one third of the *worst* ever recorded Oct-Sept period for precipitation. Not 1/3 of the average, 1/3 of the worst ever recorded. Talk about black swans.

Be careful what you ask for! :laugh2: 85+ degree water, low pressure, and no wind sheer can make for a big ugly storm in the blink of an eye!

I was leaving the Bahamas (Atlantis) when Katrina was just a slight wind and a light sprinkle of rain. By the time it got to Florida (170ish miles away) it was a Category 1 hurricane! When it finally completed it's crossing of Florida, it slowed down and was downgraded to a tropical storm again.

Within 48 hours it was a category 4 hurricane and 6 hours later it was a category 5 (175+mph winds) hurricane!

Under the right conditions, Lee can form into a massive hurricane in as little as 36-48 hours. ;)

Obviously I don't want any major hurricanes and don't want anyone hurt... But a pretty big hurricane hitting around the King Ranch wouldn't affect many people and would likely still be strong enough to affect even north Texas. ;)

I'm far enough inland that nothing will be a hurricane here... I just want some rain!

BTW, here's what the Houston NWS is saying (just an excerpt from their latest discussion):

INTENSITY OF THE SYSTEM WILL REMAIN A EVEN BIGGER QUESTION. THE
NAM/ECMWF REALLY DEEPEN THE SYSTEM...ECMWF MORE SO IN THE
EARLY/MID WEEK TIME FRAME NEXT WEEK. GFS IS CONTENT WITH A STRONG
TROPICAL STORM WHILE THE ECMWF GOES FOR A MAJOR HURRICANE. SINCE
NO SYSTEM HAS FORMED YET...DIFFICULT TO TELL WHICH WILL REALLY
PAN OUT. REALITY IS THAT THE WHOLE EVOLUTION OF THE SYSTEM WILL
LARGELY DEPEND ON MODELS RESOLVE THE SYSTEM ONCE IT DOES FORM.

I am about 150 Nm South of Galveston right now. Havent started seeing anything yet. I usually dont relish the idea of having to strap everything down and run from a storm but I will definitely make an exception if it will just bring some water. My trees are dying a terrible death.

I've been watering my lawn like crazy just to keep it brown.

If not it would be "Dirt".

Maybe you should spray it with some UV 100 sunscreen too. :laugh2:
